you made me think with the settings comparison question. I have my IP address statically configured on the network that I have trouble on, my truck has wifi using and AE specifically to enable AirTunes. My buddy DHCP'd and I was static, I didn't work, he did. Just now I switched and DHCP'd an address and my phone is fixed. Now that causes me other issues, but it appears to fix the AirTunes dropping issue.

Anyone else statically assigning IP addresses? Try changing to DHCP and see what happens.

I FIXED IT, TOO!

DHCP needs to come from the Time Capsule, not from any different device. If you have an Apple access point that just serves as a bridge, it's bad. If DHCP comes from the Apple device, things are working fine. I set up 2 DHCP servers in my network environment, which isn't really a good way to go, but at least it works now. I made sure the assigned IP addresses don't overlap.

If the AirPlay receiving device (Zeppelin Air) and iPhone 4S get the IP address from an Apple DHCP server (in a Time Capsule in my case), things work well. DHCP server from AVM (FritzBox, famous in Germany mostly) makes it wonky and crash in no time.

Interesting. Very interesting. Apple using some sort of cutting edge stuff again that goes incompatible with "older" solutions? Maybe. Not ideal none-the-less.

Please all keep posting so we find out more. It appears Apple takes their time.

Wow, thought this was a problem with my iHome iW1. It does exactly what everyone here has been saying. Plays a few seconds and then stops. I have the iPhone 4S. But my wife has my old iPhone 4. After reading this thread, I tried the iPhone 4 and it worked flawlessly. The 4 has iOS 5 on it too. I played music through the Sirius/XM Internet Radio app for over an hour. I also tried iHeartRadio's app for a few minutes with no disconnect. My 4S will not play for more than a minute (usually much less).

This is so frustrating. I really hope this is fixed in iOS 5.0.1.

Add me to the list: I have a Libratone Live (airplay) which works flawlessly with my windows 7 Itunes/airfoil, Ipad 1 and iphone 3GS. But with my 4S, no such luck (same issues as all of you).

FYI, I contacted the Libratone support staff and they quickly came back to me saying that:

1/ it's a known issue affecting ALL iphone 4S (not other iDevice) whatever the airplay device you are trying to stream to.

2/ Apple is aware of the problem and is working on a fix but no ETA for that.

The above means that there's no point in fiddling with your network settings or what have you for hours like I did or returning your "broken" 4S for a new one because that won't fix the airplay problem. You "just" have to be patient and hope that a fix is coming down the line.

As suggested by another person, you can remote control your PC Itunes using the 4S with no issue at all (except that the PC has to be powered on obviously), or airplay DLNA content using an app such as "Media:connect" but for the time being streaming music directly from your iphone 4S is not a working option.

Very strange this...

But having tested the iPhone 4S with the Zeppelin Air this morning, connecting to an Airport Extreme, I didn't have any dropout's or issues at all.

Before trying, I changed the router config, the country it was set to was Austria so I set it to UK (where i live), and I also set the Wireless channel to 13.

Not sure if this actually fixed it, I'm guessing not. I think recently I have disabled iCloud on the iPhone 4S as well, whether that has helped I am not sure... but this is not iPhone 4S specific as iCloud is a feature of iOS 5.

Strange. Will keep you all posted on progress but bizarre that I had everyhing working perfectly for about 3 hours straight this morning before I had to leave!
