Ipad 1 slows down after installing IOS 5

Maybe I missed it, but the restore feature in iTunes, this is defeated as well?

I've been reluctant to upgrade from 4.3.3, or should I say felt it untrustworthy.

I somewhat think it's all based mainly on getting cloud services set up as the priority,

and show some candy along the way.

I seem to recal a campaign based on change. lol

I've been suffering with my iPad 1 paperweight after "upgrading" to iOS 5 like most on this thread. The 5.0.1 update did nothing to solve the problem. Today I met with apple genius Will at the Tyson's Corner store. Will helped me solve a Mac problem a couple of years ago and actually deserves the Genius title. Here is what he did to my iPad 1 to make it usable again. He went to settings /general/reset/restore all settings and did a resore as new iPad. It didn't destroy any data, I just had to redo my network passwords and a couple of other minor app settings here and there. So far, so good. It's almost like it was out of the box.

I have to agree with Rick above. I've been following this thread for a few days. I have two iPad 1's, one for home that was loaded up with games, apps and all sorts, and a work one that is much more lightly used. The work one was fine on iOS 5, the home one was really slow.

Although I went a bit further and erased everything and set it up from new. I'm not going to miss anything on it and so far it's working fine. Perhaps if I'd have known I'd have tried the restore without deleting the apps, but I'm just glad my iPad is back to its former glory :)

okay! i followed the suggestion of Rick, and ... it worked... but.... i didn't turn the iCloud back on. Never really needed it to begin with!

Thanks for the suggestion Rick, I was finding ios 5.0.1 loads better thean 5.0 (still was having some issues mind) but for the sake of it tried your suggestion and its definately an improvement, thanks for sharing!

Think I will be doing this on all my ios devices each time the software is upgraded also, like mentioned no data, apps or anything was lost just had to login to a few things

MY IPAD CRASHED AFTER AN IOS5 UPGRADE. ITS JUST USELESS NOW. 😟

It's almost a month now since my ipad became unusable thanks to ios5 and still no word from Apple. This is really bad service. I am quite annoyed now. I want this fixed or my money back. Anyhow, I think it's time for me to switch to a competitor product in the future. Apple disappoints way too much lately.

If your device is jail broken, then that's why it keeps crashing. The upgrade itself isn't the issue, it's something else that's preventing it from connecting to the iPad. Apple cannot get to everyone, and asking for help solely on their forums won't do you much good. Head on over to your local apple store and get a point of view from them. Good luck mate.

Thanks man. My ipad isn't jail broken though and the crashing is not the biggest issue. It' apps and browser that are awfully slow. I think I tried everything that anybody in this forum recommended but no luck. I even had my internet provider give me a network boost. Well, I will check with the guys from the Apple store. You might be right that ther's something else that slows down my connection. Thanks again.

I had the same problems with my iPad 1, when going to ios5. I did load the latest update, turned off notifications, and turned off iCloud. My iPad is back to near normal now. I will wait to try the iCloud until later on.

Interestingly, I recently updated my iMac Safari version (I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8) to 5.1.1 and had hang and slow web page loading problems. I just downloaded 5.1.2, and can firmly state that my iMac-Safari experience is back to fast and normal.

Apple seems to make jumps in OS systems that are meant to move forward, but sometimes not completely integrated with past versions. So far though, the second (or sometimes 3rd) update corrects most or all of the issues.

I have been having the same problems since upgrading to iOS 5.0/5.0.1... Everything is slow and frequent crashes.

I have found that if you disable all iCloud features including photo stream etc the situation improves dramatically. Apps run faster and crash much less, it's still not perfect but much better than with iCloud enabled.

I was experiencing the same problems with my iPad one. I decided to move on, I sold it and purchased the iPad 2. I would suggest this rather then trying to deal with the problems of the first generation. The upgrade to the iPad 2 is well worth the money.

I too was experiencing considerable slowness after upgrading my iPad to iOS5.

I followed the useful advice provided by conormcnicholas (thank you for that).

After having rebooted as he suggested the problem has mostly gone away. Overall the iPad is *slightly* slower in certain instances but it's bearable and definitely much better than before the reboot.

Same performance hit here with iPad 1

Typing is painful, apps crash, everything runs slower, genius bar no help.

This is Apple?

My iPad is very slow when it comes to typing, some of the pages of Safari just free or take a long time to load.

Only wishing that Apple find a solution for this.
