Ipad 1 slows down after installing IOS 5

Adter installing IOS 5 my Ipad 1 slows down considerably. Apps take time to start and especially the writing is so slow that I actually I cannot use the Pad anyomore. I udgraded only because I could not update imoorstant apps (keypad, pages) anymore with the old operating system. But this is no solution. Anyone elseexperiencing this problem or am I the only one?

I too purchased mine on launch day in 2010. I just tried the "reset all settings" suggestion. I initially thought that it would erase the iPad to 'factory settings' and I'd have to reinstall all my apps, etc. Fortunately, that was not the case - it just cleared the settings. I didn't have to setup my email again, but I did have to enter a new pin/passcode. That seems to have sped things up.

In this thread, there was a suggestion of doing the more extreme -- erase all content and NOT restoring from backup (download all the apps from the App Store, redo all your email setup, etc). That will be what I do next if I'm still having troubles.

There are several apps that backup their data to the GameCenter, but there are several only store the data locally (or within the iTunes backup). Download iFunBox as a work around to "saving" the game data. It's somewhat hit or miss, but it worked with the apps I tried it with. I noticed that many of the apps had the data saved in the Library\Preferences folder. I copied the file to my PC using iFunBox (also works for Mac).

The iFunBox workaround allowed me to move the progress I had made on my iPad to my iPhone. That is, I was able to "backup" and "restore" a single app from one device to another without using restore from backup. (Infinity Blade, Battleheart, TapDefense, and Crush the Castle)

In a hopefully, last, desperate effort I reset all this morning but alas to no avail. For ten minutes all seemed fine. Now crashing out of Safari regularly.

I have done ALL of the recommended actions but no fix to the problem. (even had a replacement Ipad).

If only Apple would acknowledge the problem we cold all relax and wait for the fix. But without that, we are wasting many many hours trying all sets of actions with no success. It is driving me mad,

My 2 cents is that really IOS5 should have never been installed in iPad1 the apps are slow, the general speed of the iPad is slower and in reality IOS 5 was more attune to iPad 2. What would be nice is at least to have the ability to down grade back to IOS 4 in order to gain speed back. But in all honesty this is typical of older Apple devices trying to run the newer OS updates. Your really better off sticking with the original OS for that device. I wish now if I wanted to run IOS 5 is I should have just bought a iPad 2.

I should have just bought a iPad 2.

You are Absolutely Correct that iPad1's should been notified to skip the update.

Just like my old PowerBook 10.4.11 from 05, the return prompt says no further updates available.

Luckily, I never trust updates,

and come here first, which paid off this time.

I scrolled through some of the older posts, back a page, some are having luck.

Its very simple.

Re-install your software and do not restore from backup.

Re-add your mail accounts and apps from the app store (fresh copies).

I think some data from old OS's gets corrupt and causes problems.

Something in the backups is the culprit and the only (or simplest way to cure) is just re-do it.

Good luck.

The problem with Posts like this, it's not step by step.

For some of us, myself included, it's a must.

Those of you out there that have succeded, please be thoughtful when posting here,

so we know how to start the process correctly.

Maybe time too start a new thread of just this process.

In a few threads, it's been noticed not to use iCloud, and a few claim it still works,

so it's still a little vague on a true path to take.
