Ipad 1 slows down after installing IOS 5

Adter installing IOS 5 my Ipad 1 slows down considerably. Apps take time to start and especially the writing is so slow that I actually I cannot use the Pad anyomore. I udgraded only because I could not update imoorstant apps (keypad, pages) anymore with the old operating system. But this is no solution. Anyone elseexperiencing this problem or am I the only one?

I was having similar problems to many described here after upgrading: unbearably slow launching and operation of various apps, particularly browser-based ones (a WebKit-related issue?), and frequent crashes. I'd experienced one other issue that I haven't seen mentioned so far, though: whenever I opened up Notification Center by sliding down the little grey drop-down sheet, I'd see some of the notifications constantly flicker, and the sheet itself would jerk up and down slightly as long as it was kept open. The problematic notifications were all Calendar events.

Based on some of the suggestions earlier in this thread, I tried disabling Notification Center — but only for the Calendar app. That was enough to restore most of the expected performance of my iPad; it still seems a bit laggy, and there are occasional crashes, but the improvement was immediate and obvious. Can anyone else pin the trouble down to calendar notifications in particular?

1- took unusable iOS 5 iPad1 to apple store. Unhappy.

2- got REPLACEMENT iPad1 with 4.0. Thank you, Apple!

3- re-downloaded apps. 5.0-ready apps don't work and my saved data does not reappear. Unhappy.

4- restored from backup. All apps working. Then crashes start again.

5- took new unusable iOS 5 ipad1 to apple store AGAIN. Talked with James in the Christiana Mall store (not your fault James... It's your bosses I have problems with)

6- told to restore as new. Told to re-download apps. To confirm, yes, my data may be unrecoverable. Unhappy. Steaming, actually.

7- my choice: apps crashing and data, or complete restore from scratch and no data.

8- Apple, I trusted this device for my business before ios5, but those days are over. Waste of $500, untold app purchases, and too many hours. Doesn't seem like they are particularly worried.

You should definitely post your experience directly to Apple at this link:

Maybe there is power in numbers. I posted them with my experiences. BTW, don't give up yet...I was able to get my iPad 1 workable. I don't know if my solution would help you or not. Look at your Bookmarks and Bookmark Bar in Safari and see if there are any spurious bookmarks there. I eneded up with hundreds of identical broken links after I upgraded to iOS5 and migrated from MobileMe. After I deleted them, and just enabled the few Notifications that I most wanted to have, my problems mostly disappeared. It's still maybe a little slow, but definitely completely usable (and still faster than many computers I owned in the past...).

If you do have many, many bad bookmarks that appear on your iPad and Mac or PC, the best way to delete them is to delete them from your Safari browser on your Mac or PC first, then sync your iPad using the "This time only" + "Sync Bookmarks" settings. It will, on that sync only, replace all the bookmarks on your iPad with those on your Mac or PC.

Thanks to martmitch for the link!
