Ipad 1 slows down after installing IOS 5

Adter installing IOS 5 my Ipad 1 slows down considerably. Apps take time to start and especially the writing is so slow that I actually I cannot use the Pad anyomore. I udgraded only because I could not update imoorstant apps (keypad, pages) anymore with the old operating system. But this is no solution. Anyone elseexperiencing this problem or am I the only one?

There seems to be a real performance issue going on with the new IOS5 upgrade on iPad1.

Its true if you delete iCloud account and do a hard restart, the RAM usage increases. When further investigated with the processes running in my iPad, found that the memory is not cleared properly after closing the app.

For Example,

1) My Free RAM before opening Safari = 64 MB

2) Free RAM after opening Safari = 23 MB

3) After closing Safari Free RAM = 45 MB (There is a big difference of nearly 20 MB of memory not getting cleared by the new iOS 5 apps and this memory never gets cleared resulting my available memory at only 45 MB which further goes down to 3 to 4 MB causing major delay in every operations). Proper garbage collection needs to be in place.

The above problem seems to be happening from all Apps from the Apple. Apps like Mail, Safari takes lot of memory and just doesn't clear the memory used properly. Try to open anyother app like AngryBirds or other apps from trusted app providers and close them by double clicking the Menu button, this will release few 10MB to 15 MB which was not cleared by the Apple applications.

Awaiting a fix for better performing iOS.

My local Apple store did a new Firmware installation.

Took a few minutes of on- the s-pot waiting.

My iPad first generation now performs much better. No crashes. Reasonably fast. Lots of new features.restored my Apps and my data from previous iCloud

Also I think Apple is putting out a beta iOS 5.1 update now!

All complaints should be to Apple only.

And if you want to adjust yr Ram memory ---get I process killer.its on the App store. You can wipe Apps from the Ram and see what's active.

BGR said Apple has released iOS 5.0.1 to developers, which includes six updates: fixes bugs affecting battery life; adds multitasking gestures for original iPad; resolves bugs with documents in the cloud; improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation; contains security improvements; and introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations.

So no official acknowledgement of ios5 performance issues on the ipad1 😟

Maybe 5.1 will fix it, otherwise, Apple is trying to phase out us lowly ipad1 owners. Just give me back my 4.?.? And allow iCloud on it. I still can't believe how slow the Internet is on 5.0. How in the world does a company as large as Apple release this.? Did they not test it on an Ipad1 at all? Why release something like this. Honda doesn't release a new car that doesn't run on all cylinders.....

Just like the rest of you here, my iPad 1 is more or less unusable. Mail usually needs two launched to get started, as the first one crashes. Real Racing 2 HD is also more less impossible to run. Sure, it's a very demanding game, but it worked great before upgrading to iOS5.

I wonder how it's possible that this passed through testing? There were loads of people testing out iOS in beta, using iPad 1, and they surely must have noticed this?

I'm using iOS 5 on my iPad 1 with no problems. For those iPads which are experiencing problems there must be something unique to those iPads (or the iOS 5 installation on those iPads) which brings out the problem.

If this were really widespread then iOS 5 wouldn't have made it out of Beta.

I'd recommend a restore to factory settings to see if that clears up the problem. If you continue to have problems report the problem to Apple at: http://www.apple.com/feedback.html

iOS 5.0.1 when released might also offer some help.
