Ipad 1 slows down after installing IOS 5

Adter installing IOS 5 my Ipad 1 slows down considerably. Apps take time to start and especially the writing is so slow that I actually I cannot use the Pad anyomore. I udgraded only because I could not update imoorstant apps (keypad, pages) anymore with the old operating system. But this is no solution. Anyone elseexperiencing this problem or am I the only one?

Have posted this reply in a few discussions. Don't know if this will help but... I was having the same problems. Crashes, speed lagging, and such. I have the app system activity and saw that my RAM was almost non existent. I only had 5MB free RAM after upgrade. WEIRD! Anyway...I closed all Apps on the recent list in system activity, refreshed the RAM and poof! my speed is better and so far no crashes. I have the iCloud disabled for everything except my docs and bookmarks. I hope this helps.

This is just plain wrong! It's only one version behind current line-up and my first generation iPad is practically useless after the iOS 5 update. I remember Apple promoting it as an ultimate work companion that would make presentations easy and effortless. Well not anymore!

Just a couple of days ago I had a meeting with a client and had to present a bunch of stuff and, boy, did i get humiliated thanks to my iPad! Apps crashing, everything lagging and taking lots of time to load up. Clients wants to show his website and so I open it in Safari - CRASH! - ok, let's try again - CRASH!

Thanks, Apple, for making me look unprepared and unprofessional.

P.S. This and also it looks like without Steve there is no more trust in Apple.

Did you update to iOS 5.0.1?

Those of you who still haven't updated, do that and see what happens! For me it solved all problems. Before update the iPad was practically unusable, but now it's back in business. It seems like 5.0.1 didn't solve the problems for all of us, but it did for me.

To install the update you don't need iTunes anymore, just tap the Settings icon, select General, and then tap Software Update to get going.

And finally to those of you who expect Apple to reply or in any other way react to what you're describing here:

BE WARNED Gen 1 iPad users.... DO NOT UPDATE TO IOS 5!!!!!!!!

Left Feedback as well...

"I'm at iOS 5.0.1 on my Generation 1 iPad and it's almost un-usable. It's slow when typing, Safari is slow and apps are frequently crashing. I own several Apple products (MacBook Pro 17, iPhone 4, Airport Base Station, Airport Extreme..) and I have to say I'm extremely disappointed with this update."

I definately have to rollback... tempted to jailbreak it just out of spite.

Hello :)

The reason for this is the upgrade is a big deal and requires alot of space (memory wise), therefore if you have alot of content on your device as well as upgrading, it puts allot of strain on the system. iPads are basically a tiny computer and like computers, require memory/space/etc. I recommend getting the free app called "Free Memory" in the app store. This app basically defrags your device and clears up things into your system that speeds it up a bit. Deleting apps that you no longer need will help allot too, as they take up space which lowers your memory on your device, hence slowing it down.

Hope that helps, good luck. :)
