weather widget not working
As of today, the standard Weather Widget is not updating on 10.5 or 10.4 Macs, both at work and home. Wondering if AccuWeather is having an issue.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I am very, very appreciative to have the Weather widget working again;
many thanks NeXT
Anyway to do this without access to 10.6x?
Any Mac running 10.6 or 10.7 will do. It only takes a moment to navigate to the /System/Library/WidgetResources folder and make a .zip in the Finder. A 96 kilobyte file, says Tiger here. Copy that to your 10.4 or 10.5 Mac and you're ready to roll.
Great work John, thanks! 🙂
NeXT solution doesn't work for me unfortunatley. Possibly because it stopped working in 10.5.8 on a Power Mac and I have copied the widget over from 10.6.8 on an Intel PB. Shame - I really miss the weather widget.
Has this worked in this configuration for anyone:
Not working in Leopard on a Power Mac
Copied from Intel PM Snow Leopard?
Thanks
Permissions must be right
i have no access to a 10.6 =(
Any chance adding/replacing this "widgetresources" folder will have an adverse affect on any other widgets?
Good question. I made a backup .zip before I updated mine, just in case. So far so good. iStat Pro, World Clock, Calendar and (now) Weather are all fine here. My usual set.
There's very little difference in the Tiger and Lion files nested in that folder. And, fortunately for me, it's all nice PowerPC and Intel compatible JavaScript and CSS.
Definitely a chance that something else is messed up
For those who don't have access to 10.6 or don't want to bother with copying stuff into /System/Library/;
I wrote an email to Accuweather again explaining that the weather widget gets directed to accuweather.com, that the widget gets location data ok, but not weather data.
Their support replied immediately (kudos to them). Their support person replied that they are aware of the problem and that they are working on it.
But, 3 hours later, another person from Accuweather replied that their feed is working correctly and that Apple should be consulted.
I suggest that further emails to Accuweather from posters in this thread may help get their server fixed (unless they're too busy with the lawsuit against them.)
The problem is that the old Widget points to an Apple server, not Accuweather
Shiekh,
the apple URLs redirect to accuweather.
Yeah - NeXT's tip worked for me now. Had to change permissions for the widget and the widget resoures folder, restart and now beautiful 'weather' is back. Cab delete this ugly BBC one now.
Thanks NeXT
No clue how to do any of this! I'm on a OS X, Tiger. So, I guess I can't have my weather widget anymore? That seems kind of short-sighted of Apple/Mac, no?
Anyone care to talk me through how to update this? I am almost computer illiterate, so type slowly. Thanks.
Oops! Did not read rest of thread. Never mind (I hope). Off to read the thread.
I'm back and still not sure. My weather widget is "stuck" on last week's weather-it still displays, but never changes, even if I change the locale. I'm on Tiger, 10.4, I think. I'm rather hopeless at this side of computer things. Do I copy and paste the above stuff from NeXt? Where do I paste it to? And how do I create a zip file?
Sorry to be a PITA, but I'd really like to have my weather back. I didn't realize how much I relied on it until it didn't work. Thanks.
