weather widget not working
As of today, the standard Weather Widget is not updating on 10.5 or 10.4 Macs, both at work and home. Wondering if AccuWeather is having an issue.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I just found this post today too. It hasn't been working for a few days on Tiger on both my Macs 😟 It's sad because I used that widget quite a bit, and it looks so nice sitting on my dashboard (I really like the way it looks when it's snowing or raining). To not have it means I've lost a little part of Apple in my old Macs. Oh well. I'm using the Weatherbug widget now which is on Apple.com. It doesn't look too bad and it's at least in English (which I found that most of the others aren't).
Report the issue to Apple. It just might help...

On another, but related note, I wish Apple had a Widgets section on the Mac App Store. If nothing else, it would be an easy way for making the updated widgets available to older OS'es, without having to issue an entire OS update.
same here. i've tried the other options but i dislike all of them. the standard weather widget is much better looking.
What is the word, Apple?
I'm not a programmer, but I found the following, for what it's worth:
There is a file named weatherParser.js in the following directory (in OS X 10.5):
/System/Library/WidgetResources/.parsers/
Within weatherParser.js, a function called fetchWeatherData points to URL:
Also within weatherParser.js, a function called validateWeatherLocation points to URL:
In my OS X 10.5, the weather widget has no problem fetching location data.
But it does not fetch weather data.
The first URL is no good, while the second is still good.
What has happened to Apple_Weather_Data.asp ?
All of the above is moot.
Apple should make a statement one way or another.
I can't think of a vendor who doesn't provide support via emails or forums, except Apple. Or does it?
They're rather reclusive & tight lipped, are the other working weather widgets to your great disdain?
1. Have access to 10.6.x
2. Compress System/Library/WidgetResources
3. Replace 10.5 System/Library/WidgetResources with 10.6 System/Library/WidgetResources
4. I also swapped weather widgets from 10.5 and 10.6
should work with 10.7 swaps since its all html and js.
now it works.
thanks french roast.
Great tip possibly, thanks... but is that Intel & 64 bit only since JAVA versions differ???
Hmmm, what city or local is that?
10.5
Checking weatherParser.js I get that
http://wu.apple.com/adcbin/apple/Apple_Weather_Data.asp?zipcode=
which redirects to
http://apple.accuweather.com/adcbin/apple/Apple_Weather_Data.asp?zipcode=
which redirects to
127.0.0.1
And city selection functionality works
http://wu.apple.com/adcbin/apple/Apple_find_city.asp?location=
redirects to
http://apple.accuweather.com/adcbin/apple/Apple_find_city.asp?location=
which gives a correct XML response.
Could please anybody check which URLs on 10.6 you have in your widget? Thx.
From NeXT

Superb catch; not sure about 10.7 though
What if we dont' have access to 10.6x? I am running Leopard and have not yet updated to Snow Leopard.
If your machine can run 10.6 then the upgrade is the best way to go.
Same thing as liylykept happened to me... And exactly same day too, 11 Nov 2011... Any news...?
NeXT figured out the fix
It works: using Lion's files on a PowerBook running Tiger, no less.
Pleased to see the old widget back to life. (I replaced the WidgetResources folder, but the widget is Tiger's own.)
That second widget you can see in the screenshot is the best looking alternative I could find. But where is Wednesday? For the while I've had it, the daft thing never did show the following day.
