iPhone 4S is loosing connection with Carrier after iOS5 update

Hello,

I've yesterday update iOS 5.0.1. I did it directly in phone without iTunes.

Today I've recognized a issue - my iPhone is loosing connection with Carrier.

I bought phone directly from Apple and using it in T-Mobile Czech republic network.

The status bar show only Search... or No Service

I'm in area where others have good signal including 3G. Also my iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4S before upgrade works well.

I have to switch off the phone (5sec. push of sleep button) and start again to find Carrier.

The switch to Plane mode and back doesn't work.

Manual choice of carrier doesn't work even I can see and choice T-Mobile - still no service

I need to revert iOS update to be able to use my phone. Please help me with this.

Thanks

Best Regards

Jirka

I live in Sao Paulo - BRAZIL

I bought the 4S 20 days ago and it worked fine in 5.0. With the 5.0.1 update it loses signal after 4 / 5 minutes on and after this gets failure on the SIM. I use TIM and already changed the SIM by a new one, already switched to a normal SIM and cut out, already put the chip from VIVO and CLARO, always with the same result as ****. I signed up for developers and installed the 5.1 beta. It's the same problem which leads me to believe that a new firmware will not fix it. Bought today a Samsung Galaxy S2 and will trow the 4S out the window. Long life to samsung.

Me inscrevi no developers e instalei a 5.1 beta.

Same problem here in Scottsdale Arizona. I'm on my 3rd iPhone4S and the phone won't hold a connection. The signal moves from "searching" to ATT to WiFi. The SIM card was changed and it still happens. I've taken in to Apple Genius Bar and they replace with new phone but after a week the problem happens again. It also causes the battery to deplete quickly and the phone to shut itself off.

Ola pessoal..

Fizemos alguns testes hoje a noite..

1) Colocamos o meu chip no iphone 4.. funcionou normal

2) Colocamos o chip dele no meu 4s.. funcionou normal

Hello everyone, try this and please report if it helped you too.

For me I solved the problem as it seems now... I was afraid to report because I thought the problem would come back, but it didn't, now already for a week!

My problem was: I lost connection to the provider every now and then. After that I did not get connection even on places where I had very good connection normally. Also one one of the SIM cards I tried now and then the no valid SIM popt up.

What I tried on the phone:

The flightmode for several minutes and back to normal which did not bring carrier connection back. I had to fully turn off the phone and put it on again, then it found my carrier again and connected.

I tried with and without WiFi.

Data on and off.

SIM pincode on and off.

Everything!!!

Tried to restore with backup several times.

Tried configuration as new Phone installation several times.

Tried with and without update to 5.01 and afterwards same procedures with backup and as new phone installation.

Also with different SIM cards installed.

It took me several days of restoring and testing! And I broke my phone-bumper after putting SIMs in and out several times.

What I tried on SIMcards:

I tried dutch providers KPN, T-mobile, Tele2 (on KPN) and Kruidvat (on T-mobile) (Tried 2 Simcards from them as one gave me "no sim" error also several times).

It took me 2 brandnew iPhone 4s (I returned the non functioning to Apple, after support could not help me)

I called my providers and asked for help, but it did not help. Also asked for 64k and 128k but this did not seem to be the probleme either.

What the problem was then, I don't know!

After I almost went mad and almost threw my iPhone away I found my solution 🙂

Settings --> Provider --> Turned automatic off -->iPhone searched for providers/ carriers and lists them --> select carrier. Thats all.

Ironnicaly: After travelling around with the settings like this (selected carrier) for a couple of days now, I now can even turn it back in carrier automatic selection and it does not lose its connection anymore! Even if I travel the same ways in railwaytunnels etc. It comes back to connection after a short no service in the tunnel and after that normal connection to my carrier again and never anymore no service!!

What happened????? Is there some spyware on the phone, some selflearning tools in the programming on the phone?

Dear dr e a:

When I saw your post I had a very special feeling and got very happy because when you described your issue it was exactly the same thing that happens with my iphone 4S.

Unfortunately, the happy moment last only 10 minutes.

10 minutes is the time that my iphone 4s lasts to loose signal and show no service.

Turn automatic carrier search off did'n work for me. Anything work for me.

In the firmware 5.0 my iphone 4S worked perfectly.

Apple where are you ??

Missing Steve Jobs!!!

I have registered this as a bug on Apple's radar (http://radar.apple.com). I was contacted by the engineering team and asked to reproduce the issue and send some logs from the device baseband. A few days later the bug was marked as a duplicate.

This means Apple's engineering team is aware of this exact issue and looking for a fix. Hopefully to be included on next firmware release.

(I'm in Brazil, TIM and two of four 5.0.1 iPhone 4S I got on France launch day are non-working with any SIM card. The other two are working fine)

DR e a,

I read your post and I was so excited to start using my 4S again using your tip. I turned of automatic, BUT it still doesn't work. Still losing signal on my 4S.

I'm like a kid who can't sleep, sitting in front of a Christmas tree, waiting for Santa to bring Christmast present from Apple, an update to fix this issue :| and I'm not even christian/catholic 😟
