1st Gen Nano Recall Notification

Finally! I got notification from Apple this evening that they will be replacing my 1st gen nano. I had to verify serial number, but other than that they said they will send me packing materials and instructions to send it back and they will send me a replacement. They didn't say what they would replace it with (refurbish 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen...). Anyone have an inkling?

Absolutely!

First of all it is not my fault that apple built in low-quality components.

I guess the only reason to exchange the old Ipods is because they're afraid someone could sue them for compensation in case of physical damage.

This company is not the salvation army.....

Second point is that I already thought about buying an Iphone, but if I'd imagine to wait two months for a replacement if this was damaged without my fault I can only shake my head in disbelief,

No matter how old the product is.

Would we be able to exchange the replacements at the store for a different color? Is there any way we could indicate that we'd like an orange instead of a silver ipod nano? Mine is still on "pending replacement" mode... which is kind of annoying, but if they're sending out the new versions I'll be happy. I figure orange isn't such a popular color so if there was only some way to let them know, there would probably be no problem, right? 🙂

Also, out of curiousity, has anyone who hasn't been actively complaining, but patiently waiting who has received their product lately? I know they have thousands to send out so I don't want to be one of those mean customers, but if only those who are ranting on here are getting results... well, that makes me sad 😢

I got mine. It took 6 weeks from them receiving it almost exactly.

But guess who else knows there are thousands of apple products going out?

UPS and FedEx employees. I and another lady were at the FedEx center to pick up packages from Apple and they were both torn open. She was missing her repaired iPhone from her package, but my Nano was still inside mine, although opened and played around with.

The FedEx woman who brought out the packages didn't even care. She just shrugged off the obvious package opening and theft.

I guess iphones are more desirable than Nano ipods?

Apple is taking their sweet time with mine. i had to downgrade to my shuffle, which got stuck in the wash and is now broken. I'll die if i cant listen to music least once a day! I've been waiting for nearly a month now and the status is just "pending"... this is apple right here. they sugar-coat EVERYTHING from their bulletproof, shatterproof, bombproof, helicopter windshield stainless steel glass to their 6 week waiting period for a replacement for an IPOD NANO. APPLE! JUST STICK AN IPOD NANO IN A CARDBOARD BOX AND SEND IT TO MY HOUSE, IT"S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE! YOU DONT HAVE TO TWIDDLE YOUR THUMBS THINKING "WHEN SHOULD I SEND THESE GUYS' iPODS TO THEM?" FOR 12 WEEKS!

... Had to get that out of my system. Def Leppard, Yes, UB40, Asia, i cant survive high school without them...😢

Four months to check and exchange an Ipod????

They probably shipped millions of them in the meantime.....

That is really ridiculous!

I really used my old Nano1 a lot and now I don't one for quite a while

Ok, I can use my cellphone (...thank god not an Iphone...) and I could get used to it....

Shows me at the end of the day that I don't really need an Ipod.

But that's not the point!

No matter how old the item is or if the exchange is free,

This is not a way to treat customers!

Mine was posted back to Applecare UK in Leicester on 24th November and I've heard nothing since. Checking the status of the repair it appears they haven't even received it, although according to the Post Office I posted it from just because it hasn't been registered as received doesn't mean they haven't got it. Using the Post Office 'Track & Trace' facility on their website it appears that, according to them, the package is still being 'processed'. In other words they've lost it. I can drive from here to Leicester in 30 minutes, so a small 85g package should've got there within 2 days surely, not taken 4 months+!

Do we think we ought to blame Apple for not providing plain packaging and should 'Home Shop Returns' be automatically insured for whatever the value is of the returned product?

Looks like I've lost this Nano due to Apples phenominal success. I can only hope that whoever has this is enjoying it as much as I did.

If this scenario occurs again involving a returned product to Apple I will make sure it goes back to an Apple shop so that there will be some redress should it go missing.

We never cease to stop learning, do we, even when we think we're on top of everything and we know what to expect from life, someone will bowl you a curved ball!

I have just received the worst customer care and phone support from apple for my nano. Firstly, I called in apple to see how my repair status was going. The guy on the phone specified that I could simply book an appointment into apple and they would simply swap it over for the new one in store. Then as I turn in for my appointed time, they told me that I must have miscommunicated with customer care because they have not heard anything about this at all and could not swap my first generation nano over. Moreover they could not even seem to find any notes of the call I made. After half an hour, I got told the original steps of how to submit my nano with no solution.

I also asked them to check up on who the person was that I talked to and the sales lady simply asked me what the point was on asking since my nano's weren't going to get to me quicker even if I knew the person's name. I believe that since apple made the mistake, they should AT LEAST swap my nano there and then.

I always thought apple is supposedly a provider of good service....

Looks like they've been busy at Apple - mine has shipped too!

I have had "Product Replacement Pending" notice since 3rd Feb and so if the ipod is delivered on Friday that will be exactly six weeks from the date it was received by Apple. If you look at the original recall notice it says "You will receive a replacement unit approximately 6 weeks after we receive your current iPod nano (1st gen)" so they are being true to their word!

Very frustrating to be without an ipod for all of this time but can we really complain when we are being sent a brand new ipod due to a very small risk of overheating?

Mar 14, 2012 6:09 AM in response to stevie306

OK, it is only an Ipod , there is life without one.

On the other hand it is only an example.

Three months without a mobile phone or a computer wouldn't be too funny....

I can't rate the 'very small risk of overheating' but for them it was dangerous enough to exchange thousands of Nanos for free.....

If I had the choice I would have kept my old Nano1 with safe battery.

Mar 14, 2012 8:02 AM in response to what_the_f

My ipod nano gen 1 was in mint condition it was a 4GB it cost 250.00 dollars and this piece of crap they sent me costs 99.00 dollars and is a Refurbished iPod nano gen 6 not even new. i really regret sending my ipod back, i feel like a real sucker and for those of you who don't know; this may be good news for you or bad (for me its bad) that 1st generation ipod nano you sent apple, your never going to see it again. they are going to (this is a fact) send you a Ipod gen 6 with 8GB. i got this Piece Of Crap instead i never agreed to it; they were supposed to just replace the battery but they decided to screwed me instead. i hope you like the 6th Generation ipod nano cause your stuck with it. My advice is this if you haven't recived this bad joke of a replacement yet, out to a store and check out the Ipod nano 6. and if you hate it like me. maybe complaining before they send it might get them to change their plans. when i opened my fedex box with my returned nano.. I Let Out a Resounding " What_The_F"
