No Wifi after iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1 updates

After the iOS 5 update, I had problems on my iPod Touch 3rd Generation with the wifi. It's grayed out and says that there is no wifi. I've tried everything, restores, resetting, EVERYTHING! So I went searching on the message boards, I'm not the only on with this problem. So I thought I would wait until the iOS 5.0.1 update to come out, maybe they would have fixed this problem. Still nothing. I know that this is not my hardware problem, so please do not even suggest it. I had perfectly working wifi before I updated, and I'm not the only one with this problem.

But if you have suggestions that have worked for you, please share.

I just want Apple to acknowledge this. It is a bit ridiculous. What good is an iPod Touch without wifi, its just a music player, and that is not what I want from my iPod Touch.

All I can say is that I updated my Ipod to ios5.0.1 and my firmware on my Airport Extreme the same day and none of my devices will connect. My Ps3, my iPod... occasionally my Macbook.

These latest rounds of updates killed my home network and hopefully not my devices.

Before I updated.... NO problems whatsoever!

Come on Apple address these things.... your updates are causing alot of issues for a lot of people.

I wish I could say I understood why one of these issues is related to the other but I can't .... seriously just blew up my digital world.

Thanks for nothing so far!

I called my internet provider. The Charter.net representative came and upgraded the modem wifi router to WAP2 (or Wi-sky?).

Anyway, it was previously on WAP, which apparently does not provide good security. The iPod now works fine with iOS 5. He also reset all of my other wifi devices (a second iPod, an iPad, and 2 iPhones) to the new network setting.

Apple does have a blurb on this, but it is not explicitly stated as to what to do. I had to check out my iPod on another wifi provider nearby (a coffee shop) to determine that the device was working. That is how I narrowed down the root cause of the problem.

Well after spending the week trying to get my iphones to connect to the Netgear 3700 I gave up and bought an Airport today. Hooked it up, did the setup and all is now well again in the house. What is strange is that my imac, mac mini and Ipad 2 (also running ios 5.0.1) didn't have a problem with the Netgear 3700 that I had used for the past 16 months. Also, my iphones were able to see other routers and connect. In fact, my iphones could connect to the office router which is an older Netgear N router. It makes no sense to me that the only things not working were the iphones when I also updated the iPad 2 but at least it's working now. My only fear is that when they come out with the next update to ios is that going to cause more wifi problems. Not real happy I had to spend the money on a new router but oh well.

Ok.... I am back up and running! After 3 phone calls to Apple Care and about 6 hours of troubleshooting I am all back to normal....

My particular situtation wasn't exactly what I thought it was.... My initial thought on the source of my issue was the iOS5.0.1 upgrade.... as it turned out I needed to reinstall iOS 5.0.1 and change the radio channel settings on my airport extreme.

Since I have multiple wireless devices in my house, Apple said that with the iOS 5 upgrade and the update to the firmware of my router, that interference could happen.

So the long-short of my resolution....by the way the iOS 5 supervising manager Jonathon spent over an hour walking me thru and then sent to the Wireless/Airport Extreme supervisor to adjust my rounter.... both of these guys were remarkeably patient and extremely knowledgeable.

1. Restore my iPod and reinstall iOS5 and restore my backed up info.

2. Go into Airport Utility App and manually set up the router.

a. Manual Set Up

b. Summary page select the wireless tab

c. Radio Channel Selection - Manual - Edit

d. Change both channels to something different that what they are currently set.

e. Update and Save your new settings.

f. Restart all devices you are trying to connect to via your router.

g. Back online and flying.

I must say that I was beginning to lose faith in why I re-invested my technology in Apple then Supervisor Jonathon and Travis were patient and knew the proper steps to get me back up and running.

My conclusion be being knocked offline on my iPod Touch wasn't just the upgrade to iOS5, it was also the firmware upgrade to my Airport Extreme and the channel selection.

After having a fully functional iOS 5 for a day now I am real happy with all the new features.

I hope this helps those of you still struggling to get iOS5 up and running.

I have the same issue, on my Ipod 3, it worked perfectly before the update and not at all after.

It is not a hardware issue, or a password issue, as some have commented below.

I can't even access the settings, they are greyed out. It is not a router issue, my other Ipod which has not yet been updated, works perfectly.

Restoring, re-setting the networksettings, re-setting the router nothing works.....

I have also noticed that the battery is going down very quickly...... since the update.

Please Apple do something....
