ipod nano recall - time to respond from apple

I input all the information for the nano recall in Apple's website, but it is just sitting there. I've heard others got their new nanos already, but we haven't even received a box to send the old one in yet. It's been 16 days. There doesn't seem to be a way to contact Apple to find out what the timeline is or if my case just got stuck in no man's land.

Anyone else waiting a long time for a response?

I think the opinion you have is the same thing that Apple got wrong in planning for this recall, it turns out that a lot more people have and use their old 1st gen nanos than anyone anticipated. My wife and I both have and use ours almost every day. She uses hers with the Nike+ system to keep track her running and it's kind of a bummer to be without it for 6 weeks. I listen to hours of podcasts through tedious blocks at work. We were thinking about sending one in right away, then holding the other one for a while before sending the other to minimize our ipod-less time.

The main reason for box-related hysterics has to be that they sent everyone an email saying "you'll get a box in 2 days" then we heard nothing until a box finally shows up a month later and meanwhile every communication is filled with these red-herring statements about how they have to receive your ipod within 10 days or your service order will be canceled, or that 30 days after a service order is placed but not fulfilled they can cancel it and you'll have to start the box process over again (noooo!). These do nothing but confuse people, and make them wonder if the process is proceeding as it should...which naturally sends them to the mac forums to figure out if they are the only person feeling this way.

This thread has ended up as a nice crowd-sourcing way to track when people are actually getting their return materials, thanks everybody! As an update on an earlier post, I placed each of two return requests on November 13, got one box Friday (Dec. 9), the other on Saturday (Dec. 10) in North Carolina. Boxes had shipped on the 7th and 8th from Pennsylvania but it look like they're bound for California next.

Indeed. A similar situation here. My family has sent in three of which two are frequently used. The battery in the third had gone for a burton a few years back and so this is a welcome recall. That said we do have a fair collection of Apple products including several. Touches and an iPhone.

These ipods were the first ones that I thought affordable and iPods 'for the rest of us'. It would be good if Apple were able to return these before Christmas.

Apple do appear to be a little remiss with their updates on the recall. The status on one of mine is box sent despite Apple having the nano for several weeks now. No sign of any replacements but admire the fact that Apple are doing this for such an old product. Maybe they will recall my old Centris 610 one day...

Replied 11/15. No response yet. Especially "nice" since I've bought an iPod Touch, 2 iPads, and who knows how much software/media in the last 3 months. At least it's an equally crappy situation for everyone! ;-) PS, I love my 1st Gen and it still works fine, though I have noticed the battery heating up recently. We have 4-5 newer versions here and none of them are as nice.

If these iPod nanos really do pose a fire hazard, you'd think Apple would at least send boxes out in a timely fashion just to get the devices off the streets. I can understand the need to wait six weeks for a replacement — but six weeks (or longer) just to get the box in which to return it seems very odd.

How long till one (or more) of these things really catches fire and injures somebody? What will Apple say then? "Sorry, we should have sent you a box sooner"?

Box requested November 13 via email. Box received- Ontario, Canada a few days later, put in return mail the same day.

Apple support website says:

Step 1: product received Nov 22

Step 2: Problem identified Nov 22

Step 3: Product replacement pending Nov 22

So there is obviously a big backlog on at least 2 levels now, getting out the boxes (though mine came fairly quickly) & then shipping back the replacements) but it appears to move quickly through the "Step 1-2 portion". Though Step 2 seems unecessary since you couldn't get a box unless your device was eligible (I guess they had to make sure it was currently working).

It could be sheer volume of returns but my request was early on yet still no replacement.

Has anyone got their "replacment" back yet?
