ipod nano recall - time to respond from apple

I input all the information for the nano recall in Apple's website, but it is just sitting there. I've heard others got their new nanos already, but we haven't even received a box to send the old one in yet. It's been 16 days. There doesn't seem to be a way to contact Apple to find out what the timeline is or if my case just got stuck in no man's land.

Anyone else waiting a long time for a response?

Submitted the request on 11/12/2011. Received an email that with subject: "Apple Product Replacement Request ########" on 11/15/2011 and the envelope on 12/01/2011. But the 11/15/2011 email has the below paragraph which am not sure whether to send my NANO to them or not.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------

Apple may charge you a diagnostic fee, including shipping charges, of no more than one hundred($100) dollars US, plus applicable tax, if Apple inspects your product anddetermines based on the inspection that the product does not require service. If Apple determines, while inspecting your product, that service is needed dueto the failure of parts that are neither supplied by Apple nor Apple-branded,Apple may return the product to you without servicing it, and may charge youthe diagnostic fee plus applicable sales tax. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------

So, after sending my NANO to them, one of below two things could happen.

1. If they find any defect with my product, they would replace the product after charging USD100 for shipping.

2. If they do not find any defect with my product, they would not repair it but return the product to me after charging the diagnostic fee.

Either way I am paying something to get my IPOD back, which I am not sure I would do it.

Someone must have read and thought abt this. Any input here ?

Almost 40 days later and my return packaging *finally* arrived today. Came in a padded envelope I'm to reuse to send my Nano back to Apple, and it contained nothing more than a flimsy plastic bag for the Nano itself and a list of specific instructions that must be followed exactly for the return to be accepted. Guess I'll send it off an hope for the best. With luck the refurbished unit I get back won't be all scratched and beat up. I always take good care of my gear; don't want to get someone's poor abused cast-off.

I finally received my padded envelope, as well, last week. I've been sick with a bad cold, so it just went back yesterday. The instructions said to return it to a UPS facility, so I did, but they just took it without scanning it in anyway. I have no idea why one couldn't hand it to one's UPS delivery man.

I saw this article which indicates that they've run out of the original Nanos and are replacing the returned ones with new models. I don't know if it is true or not, so don't get your hopes up, but it would be a nice thing if it is true.

Happy Holidays to all.

I also got a 6th gen. While it seemed like getting a newer one was nice - I hate this thing. It's tiny & has a touch screen. Since I have vision problems I liked being able to actually push a button & feel the movement of the button. I would know I was doing what I wanted to do - even if I couldn't see it. The second iPod was the one my blind mother used. I don't know what I do for her now. No way will she be able to use this.

They shipped yours on December 23? Unbelievable!

First, they take weeks just to send out the boxes. Then they take weeks to ship the replacements. And now they're shipping replacements on a holiday weekend, when half the country is away from home.

I'm getting the feeling that Apple outsourced this matter to a third-party. The extremely poor way in which every aspect of this recall has been handled does not reflect Apple's usual excellent customer service.
