ipod nano recall - time to respond from apple

I input all the information for the nano recall in Apple's website, but it is just sitting there. I've heard others got their new nanos already, but we haven't even received a box to send the old one in yet. It's been 16 days. There doesn't seem to be a way to contact Apple to find out what the timeline is or if my case just got stuck in no man's land.

Anyone else waiting a long time for a response?

I also got an e-mail on December 23 that a nano with a 6th generation serial number was sent via 2-day.

Does anyone think all this delay was purposely to not hurt Apple Christmas sales? We know that Apple was overwhelmend with the number of replies. But think about it...nearly 1 million new iPod nano 6th generations getting sent out in late November/early December; some of them would have been repurposed for holiday gifts! Sending them out December 23 certainly quashed any of those plans.

Whatever, glad my "waiting game" is nearly over.

Update: Replied 11/15. Box arrived 12/20. Nearly did what others did: careful opening it, because you're going to use the same envelope to mail back your iPod. You put it in the little plastic bag, reseal the envelope, and then stick the mailing label over the one they used to send it to you. We'll see how long it takes to come back. Will be bummed if/when it comes back not the same generation as what I sent because it was much better than the newer ones... still, interesting seeing how many people here are complaining about training in an iPod that was past its natural life for a new one. Isn't that what they call looking a gift horse in the mouth? Apple didn't need to replace these: they should have just told us that they were a safety hazard and that we should stop using them. This is a big improvement over the days when Apple used to make you spend lots of money to update your hardware, or when they changed platforms and made you purchase, say, all new peripherals (which is what made my switch to PCs!). I personally think it's cool they're even doing this!

Apple has no idea what is going on, my step daughter found my envelope grom Apple today in a bush. I checked the tracking #it was shipped on the 13th and put on my "porch" on the 15th. When I called on the 29th I was told the package was on backorder. If they had said it had been shipped I would have called UPS. At this rate I figure I'll get the 9th generation Nano. I will drop the package off tomorrow.

Here's a little bit of info and advice for all of you:

My brother (in the Midwest) sent his request in the day after the recall was announced. He told me about it a couple days later and I searched, but couldn't find mine. A couple weeks later, I found mine in a box and sent in a request. I received a box from Fedex 2 days later and dropped my box off the next day. Super easy mailing situation! Received the new, Silver 6th Gen Nano yesterday in the mail. My guess is that it's a refurbished one, but it doesn't matter! I got something for nothing, as my old Nano stopped working years ago and was thrown in a box, never to be seen again.

Anyways, my brother never received his box like many on the forums have stated. He had his secretary call Apple and play the waiting game on the phone. After going through several people, and escalating the situation through supervisors and managers, they finally tracked down the box. It was shipped out from Apple and was going through a Fedex or UPS facility in Illinois, and then just stopped. Since there was never any outprocessing scan from that facility, it was lost somewhere there. It wasn't that Apple was backed up and hadn't shipped it out, but that it was lost in shipping. The manager stated that they would send him out a new box.

If you really want to know where that box is, call Apple and be prepared to spend 45 minutes or so on the phone. They CAN track it for you, if you talk to the right person.

I submitted my info on 15th November and when I received the envelope from Apple I sent my 1st Gen Nano back the same day.

My 4Gb 1st Generation Apple iPOD Nano has been replaced with a tiny square Nano and it is 8Gb - it arrived today

Not sure if I am pleased or not yet as I am a terrible luddite and will take time to work out how to use the new one but I cannot fault Apple on the way they have dealt with this. I could not really expect them to open a new manufacturing line to make some 1st Gen nanos just for oldies like me!
