Apple,

Please fix this Pain in the *&%* feature on itunes if you want to retain users. it is December and I still have to log in no less that 3 times to finally get itunes to let me use the software. If your experiencing a number of users dropping using Itunes. it is the reason why it's happening. it's fine if I want to purchase new music, but it a pain if I just want to listen to my music I've already paid for.

Thank you.

I have experienced the same problem. Here's what worked for me.

I did all three so I cannot say for sure which step was the successful one.

(1) iTunes > Preferences > Store. Uncheck everything that has to do with Automatic Downloads. (From now on if I want to check on the status of any downloads I will do it manually. No big deal. That beats having to enter my password every time I launch iTunes.)

(2) iTunes > Store menu. Select Authorize This Computer. The response is that it is already authorized. The thinking here is that it resets the authorization.

(3) iTunes > Store menu. Turn off Genius. (Bummer, because I kind of like Genius. Oh well.)

(4) iTunes > Preferences > Advanced. Click Reset Warnings and Reset Cache. (Again, clean house to see if that helps.)

So far this has worked. No more constant requests for my iTunes password upon launching iTunes.

I had the same issue, and tried all the hints that have been posted in this thread.

What worked for me was just reseting the iTune Store cache.

iTunes > Preferences > Advanced. Then just click the 'Reset cache' button.

I'm now free of the annoying requests for my password. Twice. Every single time I launched iTunes. Fingers crossed.

Hope that helps.

Just wanted to let you know that you were right! This issue seems to be tied in to the "web-site" data on Safari. Whenever I clear my website data on Safari, Itunes asks me for my password. Why Itunes is storing passwords on the Safari app I cannot answer. It truly does not make sense to me. But at least now I generally know what is going on. I for one choose to delete my web-data and cookies from time to time because if I don't, it will eventually affect Safari's performance. So now that I know Safari and Itunes are intertwined, it would be interesting to find out if there is a reason for this! Was it intentional or a mistake. Either way, thank you for your post.

Same story for me. Win 7 pro 64 bit, latest version of iTunes 11.0.3.42. Asked to login twice upon each launch of iTunes. Tried restting warnings and cache. Tried reauthorizing computer (and then deauthorizing and authorizing). Disabled Genius and Match, then re-enabled. All for not. Still prompted to login twice upon each launch of iTunes. Super aggrivating.

OK, I have this issue. Sometimes I get as many as 5 prompts to enter my Apple ID / password, some for downloads, some for automatic downloads. I've tried all the suggested fixes on my Mavericks MacBook running the latest version of iTunes. The last fix, sign out of the iTunes store and sign back in again, has backfired as I'm now presented with an endless sequence of "Sign in to view billing information" Apple ID / Password prompts. I know I'm entering the correct password (because if I enter an incorrect one, it tells me) but I can't get past this dialogue box. Which effectively renders iTunes useless, on my MacBook at least.

I know the issue is with my MacBook. I use iTunes on an iMac also with the same account; the iMac has no problem with userid / password login.

I'm going to try deinstalling or gutting iTunes and reinstalling or reconfiguring from scratch...

why is itunes asking for my password each time?
