Can't log into iCloud with Apple ID

When I try to log into iCloud on my Windows 7 64-bit PC, with it running alongside iTunes 10.5.2.11, I am given this error message:

User uploaded file

"Cannot Sign Up - This Apple ID is valid, but is not an iCloud account."

I have checked repeatedly for updates to my operating system, as well as iTunes and my iPod Nano. I've made absolutely sure to type in my login info carefully and correctly. What is going on here? So frustrating...

Oh I see...

I did find a page from back in October that talks about a bunch of scenarios when migrating/signing up to iCloud.

Im sure youve tried them all, but maybe a quick look over wouldnt hurt. http://www.macworld.com/article/163013/2011/10/all_about_icloud_common_signup_sc enarios.html

And if it helps, I sometimes make a checklist so I can physically mark off the steps as I go through them one by one. Because its easy to miss something like Vista SP 2 being installed or not, or having the device activated, or merging @me account before hand, etc.

Sorry I couldnt be of more help, Ill keep looking though.

Good luck

Hi Rebecca,

You don't give up, but it is hopeless. You need an AppleID made with your creditcard for purchases. See below. It is from the link that m.a.rs gives to us.

Cloud account: An account with Apple’s new sync service.

An iCloud account is a type of Apple ID.

Convert, merge, or upgrade to iCloud: If you have an Apple ID that is not an iCloud account, you can convert it into one. [THIS DOES NOT WORK (me)] If you have an Apple ID used only for purchases, you can convert it to iCloud by logging into icloud.com. If you have an active MobileMe account, you need to convert it by going to me.com/move.

So I guess you have never purchased anything from Apple (hard- or software) and you have no MobileMe account.

Use an Adroid smartphone and use Google to sync everything. It works perfect. Even with MS Outlook calendar.

Good luck, Rob

I have an Apple account, signed up for iCloud - it made me get a .me email, then later it said I was being transferred over to iCloud. Cannot sign in on my PC laptop! I tried signing into both iCloud and the .me account with my Apple id and password (which is connected to a credit card). It churns and churns, after a minute I get a message: You can't sign in because of a server error.

I called Apple, they said, "well, the serve has had problems" - but I've been trying to log in for 2-3 weeks now, no dice.

I have the same problem, only differents is that I created a brand new ID and never had a Mobile.me account or purchased anything. I don't use a android or iphone. I only want it installed to my pc with windows 7.

I have downloaded the iCloud control panel, I entered with my ID and password and what does it say:

your Apple ID is valid, but it is not an iCloud account.

Hello Pranav,

I realy don't know if there are any charges to create an iCloud account because I did not create it, but I think the answer is no. I can imagine that Apple wants to know if you are an adult and that you have money enough to buy all the things they will sell to you. So the only way to find out is to create an account.

Good luck, Rob.

Hi All,

Something strange happened this morning. On the Windows 7 PC that I was having trouble getting the iCloud login to accept my iCloud login, it started working.

What happened, is that this PC still had the old MobileMe Control panel installed, and for some reason I clicked it and well, it then suddenly it did some magic, and now I am able to use iCloud on that PC. Prevously it was refusing to accept my Apple ID as iCloud ID which I lnow full it is.

What is frustrainging now, is that I have a nother WIndows 7 PC I need to get on the Cloud and it is still refusing ...

All very strange ...

Well, I ahve been able to repeat the method.

On the WIndows 7 workstation that was refusing to accept my Apple ID as an iCloud ID I was able to fix it through MobileMe. This is waht I had to do;

  • Uninstall all Apple mobile device support apps and the iTunes 10.6.x
  • Rename my iTunes lib to iTunes_10.6 (to keep safe)
  • Install iTunes version 10.5.x (I still had a copy). You will need to reboot.
  • Install MobileMe control panel ( found a copy )
  • Open MobileMe and sign in using your Apple ID ( username@me.com )
  • It will then say migrating to iCloud and then it will pop up a window asking to start iCloud. Cancel this as you wtill need to install iCloud control panel.
  • Download and install iCloud Control Panel. You may need to reboot as part of the installation.
  • Don't open the mobile me control yet.
  • Click on and open the MobileMe control panel. The windo will popup, click on start iCloud.
  • The iCloud control panel will now start and you will be logged and can make any settings you require.
  • Upgrade your iTunes and before starting it move your iTunes music folder back.

Hopefully all this will have worked for you as it did for me.

Hi Kawayuppie,

Well, you must be a kind of a nerd or something that you were able to solve the problem. It was too difficult for me. I do not use iCloud so I cannot check your solution. But anyway a great job.

I've the same problem of getting connection problem on iCloud web login through Win8! It seems there is no Apple expert for supporting the coustomers, what a great helpful help center Apple has that makes me more exited about this brand! Is there anyone in charge of solving the problems, or everything is gone by Steve? I'm trying to login for more that 1 month with the same error, however I can login by iCloud control panel on the same PC! It doesn't seem the problem is about Apple ID or its connection to a creditcard when the control panel can login with a free Apple ID account.
