Brand isn't the issue. Regardless of brand, sometimes the burner works, sometimes it doesn't. Error message is the same, whether using a DVD or CD. I'm having the same problem and would benefit from a more thoughtful reply.

It is the disc.
Try a different brand.
Try
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
I just had the same problem. I tried a different brand of disk and it worked fine!
I just called Applecare with the same issue. They told me at frst to buy a different brand of disc!
However after some troubleshooting eventually we deleted a file called "com.apple.finder.plist" which is found in the Preferences folder Under Library.
I deleted this file (which subsequently gets regenerated) and then burned a disc and it worked. So it wasnt a brand issue.
hope that helps.
I did this and now I get this error: The disc can’t be burned because because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022).
Using a different brand of disc worked for me too,( memorex worked, TDK did not) but the TDK dvds worked in the burner on my son's mac book pro so go figure! Thanks though, because I was worried that my DVD burner wasn't
working at all!
🙂
i have recently had this problem usng 10.5.7 iMac , i solved this by reducing the amount of data i was putting onto the disc . I wasted 6 discs trying but rather than thinking about what I was putting onto the disc and what brand i was using i tackled it by the amount i was putting onto it , however it always waited 'til the end before it told be thus using the disc useless . When I put the discs back into the Mac they did not even register on the desk top . .
Worked for me too, thanks muchly for the tip!
I just had the same problem. I tried a lower speed-4x and it worked fine!
I have the same two related and INTERMITTENT errors with various brands at various burn speeds from max to min:
I get either of two messages (but only at the end after it looks as if the disc has been burning!)
1. The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.
2. The disc can’t be burned because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0x8002006E).
Last time I had this problem, I did as Dynamyq said and deleted com.apple.finder.plist.
THEN BAM! I had no Finder. And NOTHING I did would "generate a new one"! And there was a limit to what I could do without a Finder.
I called my Apple dealer for help and had to take my big iMac in so they could re-install my whole MacOSX!!!! They said NEVER delete com.apple.finder.plist !
So how do we reconcile my experience with Dynamyq's experience?
P.S. I forgot to add, Mac has several libraries, and when Dynamyq says "Library" you need to be very careful about WHICH Library you delete it from!
There's Macintosh HD -> Library
There's Macintosh HD -> System -> Library
and
There's Macintosh HD -> Users -> Library
WHEN THE HECK IS APPLE GOING TO ANSWER THIS?
I get this all the time. I had a 27" imac, which since buying it, has had a new Motherboard, new HD, new everything just about, except burner (just my luck, I think this was source of all the problems after a
there are countless guesses and suggestions made by people, including apple support staff, but nobody actually seem to have found one single consistent SOLUTION.
PLEASE, PLEASE someone prove me WRONG
I just started having the same issue. I use my Mac for my photography business. I depend on burning disks for clients. I have a ton to send out this weekend. I can't because I get the same error message. Any help yet? I am desperate here!!! I could lose business.
