ibooks author table of contents

Does anyone know how to generate the Table of Contents in iBooks Author? I have tried exporting a PDF, and previewing on the iPad, but the Table of Contents is never generated and I am finding it difficult to structure my thoughts. Before I give up and revert to Pages to create the text for import into iBooks, perhaps someone knows how the TOC generation works and what I have to do to prompt iBooks Author to generate one?

I note that there is no manual for iBooks Author - as usual, and regrettably. Apple has a blind spot about manuals - while Apple software is generally fairly easy to use, I find the learning process is significantly increased because of the lack of decent manuals.

I can think of a few things ...is the textbox that contains the TOC heading big enough for all of the listings to show?

Make sure that the titles for each chapter have a style applied to them that is listed for it to show in the TOC (you can view these styles in the TOC inspector).

Only other thing I can think of is that the chapter headings are not in a linked textbox. Only a chapter title in a linked textbox will show up in the TOC. Hope this helps you.

I am going politely mad trying to figure out why one of my sections won't show in TOC other than "untitled". The text that I enter is the same as the text of the body of the article but I see how to it reflected in the TOC. My other sections and chapter show fine. Also is there some way to have the chapter/section fill a page, at present heach chapter has a separate page in the TOC. As well, shown't there be thumbnails at the bottom of the TOC page?

What I thought was one question has morphed into three!
