Itunes radio error message.

Radio worked fine...now it does not.

Get the following error message:

An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your Internet connection, or try again later.

No changes to any network settings. No changes to anything. Internet working perfectly. Itunes store working perfectly. Radio worked fine everyday since I got this machine and now get this error message.

Keep hoping, Prabhu C. This has been going on for over a week with no change, no response from Apple and no hope for a solution in sight. Best bet seems to be to go directly to the internet to find your favorite radio stations and play them directly. Otherwise you can keep clicking and trying and sometimes, just sometimes, you might get it to load a genre.

This bug should be simple to fix...if only someone at apple were paying attention!

Hello..o..o.o..o..o....

One more point relating to the definition of these forums as a "Support Community". This means that it's unlikely that Apple even checks these forums. They rely on people directly submitting support requests to isolate issues. So while this is a good place to talk about it and in a lot of cases find solutions from other users... don't expect a reply from Apple on here. The best thing any of us can do is hammer them with support requests relating to the issue.

Sorry, Jimmy. "Bill" is known here as "britishaussie." His entry about this topic was near the bottom of page 2 of this stream. He has a very elaborate solution, but all I did was click on his link to an online station, it came up streaming on my iTunes radio, the error message disappeared, and I was able to access my regular stations again. It seemed to clear out some code that was blocking access to the server, so it may not be a permanent fix.

Here's the link I clicked on:

Hope that helps.

it doesnt work! so i think the prevaling opinion that this is an apple issue and possibly a ddos attack has some merit...i spoke with two phone techies today and they had no answer so i made an appontment at the genius bar for tomorrow but not sure its worthwhile...i'm inclined to think that the wait and see option may be the right course to take here.

Music....

I knew someone else who owned a TriVista. Really nice unit! Hopefully you purchased new....or the previous owner gave you the spare tube they packed with it. I'm told finding one later on is a bit of an errand.

The DAC in the photo is a Wyred4Sound DAC2. I almost didn't buy it.....nearly went with an Ayre. Then I heard the W4S and found it was half the cost and nearly twice the sound.

From the Mini in that photo, everything goes through the W4S and then into Atma-Sphere gear.

That solution does NOT work for me.. Even if it did, it's not much of a solution. It's supposed to work properly, you shouldn't have to repetitively do the same task several times, or anything like that.

This is day 9 of this problem, with no end in sight. I find it puzzling that this problem has persisted for this long without solution.

I have no doubt that if the vast resources of Apple Inc. were devoted to this issue it could be cleared up in short order.

[sT..Thanks, I'll check it out...this is definitely another thread but I also use a Grace Design M903 as a headphone amp and I love it...it also has line out and balanced line out but I have not hooked it up to the stereo as of yet...anyway back to the missing radio problem...]

....I am expecting a call back from Apple tomorrow....

I would encourage all who follow this thread to call Apple support and/or submit a bug report: they are usually really helpful--we'll see how they do on this....

...so Apple DID call me back to update me on my error report:

Apple engineering is aware of the problem and realizes it is a problem on their end...not a user error or a user fix.

There is no exact timetable for finding/fixing/releasing-a-patch but Apple working on it.

My own observation:

I was able to refresh the category 'Eclectic' which I have not been able to do for over a week. Someone earlier suggested that I drag my radio station to the sidebar (or you can put it is a playlist). THIS IS A GOOD IDEA AND IT WORKED FINE.

I notice that after I refreshed 'eclectic'--and other genres--there is now a station count in parentheses, e.g., "(364 streams)". It's always hard to say what causes a bug until you look at the code and find it, but something likely got changed in the last releas of iTunes that caused this bug.

Apple does acknowledge the error and is working to fix it--the support desk/Apple Care was VERY helpful and informed. I'm going to spend a nice day with my family.

I run iTunes for Windows but this thread seems a bit more comprehensive (and civil) then the one over there so I thought I would post here.

I discovered this problem roughly 10 days ago. Luckily there are forums like this and I was quickly able to see I was not alone. In the past I may have tried to resolve the problem on my own by doing things I thought might help. But through experience I learned that if a problem is not unique to my system any fixes I try may do more harm than good.

Today it seems I can open some genres, but the next time they may give the error message. Which is basically the same as how it was 10 days ago.

I am disappointed that Apple has not resolved this yet. Apparently it is not an easy fix. So I will wait it out. Not much other choice unless I move to a different program. As an AAPL shareholder I hope not too many others do this. But I imagine some will.

...also an AAPL shareholder....

I run a mac mini and iTunes as an integral part of my home entertainment system (....see Simon Templar's posts in this thread for his view of the problem, analysis and recommendations...).

I am still getting intermittent errors when I refresh a genre but notice that once I am able to refresh, a 'stream count' comes up for each genre as it refreshes.

I know Apple take their software seriously but as they move into a place on the home entertainment 'critical path' (yes there is some irony in that...) Apple development needs to balance stability and reliability versus 'nice to haves': e.g., who cares how many streams exist in a particular genre?

Reliability and stability are key.

I will follow up w/ Apple Monday or Tuesday to see how they are doing with my Express Lane case.

Ok so the solution on page 2 didn't work for me when trying to get the pls's for the top 40 / pop genre, but worked on every other genre.

I found this website http://cybernetnews.com/cybernotes-add-shoutcast-radio-streams-to-itunes/

Just follow the directions and you should be able to add any radio station to itunes. There's a search engine if you can't find the particular station your looking for.

Also came across some free software & software for around like $30 that you can actually record your favorite station. The free software you can record 2 stations at a time and the other software is unlimited. I haven't tried any of the software, just seemed interesting.

I hope apple fixes the problem asap & hope this message helps

TEMP workaround for the iTunes 10 Radio Stations that are 'unaccessable'

1) Go to: www.shoutcast.com

2) Choose 'Radio Genre'

3) Right click on 'Station'

4) Choose 'Save Target As'

5) Rename 'tunein-station' to (your choice), save to desktop

6) Click Renamed PLS file on desktop to open in iTunes

Now saved in 'Internet Songs' under Playlists

Repeat for multiple stations

Bingo!
