We are just finishing a major addition to our house and it includes and integrated sound system. Up to this point, I was considering using iPads as my in-room control devices. I am [partly] in the music production business: sound quality and reliability are a must.

Hey, M_I_H_N: Lucky you - sounds like a great project.

I have a decent AirTunes implementation across three stereo systems. I've taken more than a year on and off to add my entire CD library and digitize my old vinyl from the '60s and later into my iTunes library. I've been meticulous with metadata and field definitions, which pays off in useability. I do everything in Apple Lossless. And I keep Apple's iTunes Sound Enhancer OFF (it's a loudness tone control). One can devise presets in Equalizer and apply these to anything from a single track, to an album, to a genre or your entire library... whatever you wish. It is very flexible.

This system is excellent - and Remote on iPod Touch/iPad is killer (except when this bloody Radio Tuning Service error pops up and delays/freezes responsiveness). I did add an 802.11 router antenna booster to prevent dropouts and give me more range for my iPod/iPad remotes.

Feel free to e-mail me off line if you'd like to discuss further. malcolmross@mac.com

Well.....I hesitate to say anything for fear of angering the Gods. However, tonight for the first time in over a month, not only did I not receive an error....but it went through the entire iRadio inventory dump in less than 8 seconds. Yes.....I did time it. And I have reset everything and re-tested it 12 times. Each time was equally successful.

Right now, I don't know whether to be happy....or scared to death!

We shall see if this continues. Would like to think that the problem has been fixed. I REALLY would like to think so. But, Apple has fooled me on such things several times in the past.

On face value of all of this, and in view of the success recently reported by so many others, this appears to be terribly good news.

Music_is_her_name....should you ever find yourself in North Carolina, my wife and I need to buy you a beer. For I fear that, had it not been for your efforts at hounding Apple to resolve the matter, it may never have been addressed.

If this is still working equally as well 48 hours from now....I think I'll go dance naked in the driveway!

I have checked the radio tuner connection here in CT several times...

1. Seems to be much faster and it apparently works....

2. After each successful access of a genre, a 'stram count' is displayed....the stream counts disappear when you quit and restart iTunes

3. Access of your shared library by a remote device (iPhone remote tested) accesses ALL genres and updates the stream display for all genres...

4. Personal observation: I think Apple couldfind a way to acknowledge the existence of significant issues...The comments in this thread were [except for the Angry Bird component...and problems like this can bring out the Angry Bird in all of us...] thoughtful and helpful. Many participants seem to be shareholders and long-time Apple customers. Also 10,000 people accessed this thread and there are several other threads on the same topic. I will probably still follow up on this issue even though this particular problem appears to have been solved.

5. Simon: my wife and I may visit NC and we can trade beers. You are the one who noticed first, I think, the scope of the problem since EVERY remote triggered the issue. I will contact you outside this forum re other audio issues.

6. Malcom: I will contact you via e-mail...appreciate all your positive input....

7. Annie: thanks for concise, positive, helpful comments....

I agree with you. The classic Apple silence is more detrimental than helpful. It leaves everyone in the dark and, in fact, tends to be somewhat insulting in general. It would be one thing were it an issue that was dealt with (as this one SHOULD have been) in a matter of 24-48 hours. However, all of this went on for a month or more without even so much as any acknowledgement that they even knew about it.

If Apple thinks so little of its' user base (not to mention their shareholders) as to treat them in this fashion, then just how monumental can the narcicism be that says to itself 'Hey, we don't have to care...they'll buy our stuff (and our stock offerings) anyway, no matter how badly we treat them'.

One might also reiterate the outstanding stupidity and lack of foresight that would cause them to code iTunes in such a way as to interact with Remote-type apps in the manner that it does. As I've said before, even the local Village Idiot could have forseen the foolishness in writing an app in such a way that one minor error could (and did) bring the whole system to its knees for a significant segment of the user base.

Above all else, I think both of these issues are in dire need of change.

Great! I'll be here.

ps - one interesting thing , at least here on my end, is that I never actually get the error message. It just keeps waiting for the remainder of the dump...even though it is clearly never coming. AND, it seems to hang at different spots on different machines. On my Audio Sever it hangs at Adult Contemporary. On my desktop it hangs at Blues.

Well....it is now working somewhat.

Clearly, they have already changed something since the "fix". When they first 'fixed' it last week the iRadio inventory dump took roughly eight seconds to compleat. Now...although it does seem to be getting through the dump again....it takes WELL OVER a minute to do so.

Reallocation of resources?

New troubles?

....or just Apple dropping the ball now that the pressure on them to fix it has waned?

I don't know.

What I do know is that this would not be the first time Apple has made efforts to remedy a problem and then lost interest before finishing the job.

Perhaps I was a little too quick to adopt Apple technology in terms of a Media Server System. For now it seems obvious that their interest in entering that arena is more dilettante than serious. 'Me too' does not get the job done.

Pity!

All the genres have streams again but who can trust them. I will leave it open tonight and has has been suggested I will may playlists for all the genres. I had copied my usual stations into a playlist but anyone who listens to radio all the times does not want to be limited when the world exists and itumes radio has always been wonderful. It would be nice if it were dependable again.
