iTunes Match playing the wrong song

I recently purchased iTunes match and up until now it has worked fine. However, I just tried to play Use Somebody by Kings Of Leon on my iphone and instead of playing that song it is playing Something's Got To Give by The Beastie Boys.

The iPhone says it is playing Kings Of Leon and shows the Kings Of Leon artwork so it's just the audio that's not right. I tried playing it on my computer and there were no problems until i deleted it and tried playing it in the cloud. Same problem, Beastie Boys. So I put the original file back into iTunes and matched it again. Still the problem persists in the cloud. I presume Match has matched it incorrectly.

Has anyone else had this issue and does anyone know how to resolve it? I have a lot of music so am not sure if the problem will happen with any other tracks I have not yet listened to from the cloud. It could be quite annoying if it keeps happening.

Thanks for your help

I am having this problem, and it is infuriating. So far, it's happening with Mac Miller - Man In The Hat, it's playing Poppy by him instead. Until just recently was happening with Purity Ring - Obedear, it was playing some weird random remix that sounded like a dude in highschool trying to rap over the original track playing off a cell phone. Really strange. In addition, only my phone, when I go to play a track, it will "play", the progress bar and time counter indicate that its playing, and the play button turns into a pause button, the album art takes over the lock screen, and the play symbol pops up in the status bar. However, there will be silence while it plays. It seems to happen randomly, sometimes fixing itself but usually requiring a wipe and restore of my iPhone to really fix it. Very strange.

Wow, I thought I was trippin'. I too was trying to listen to Use Somebody on my iPhone using iTunes Match and it was playing Something's Got To Give. I have both songs in my collection so I thought that I had messed something up. It shows that it is Kings of Leon and has it on the correct album with the correct artwork but its clearly the Beastie Boys audio file. I'm glad I searched this before pulling all my hair out. Apple needs to fix this already; this post is over a year old but I'm just now experiencing the issue. I'll try the AAC trick to try and resolve this. Thanks for the tip. I guess I need to stop relying on Match to back up my music!!! It's such a great concept but with too many flaws.

This same thing happened to me on a Rammstein song as well except from the Herzeleid album, I can't remember which song, and Google brought me here. Odd. I think they played the same Mockingbird song which I disliked. However this is the only time it's ever happened to me, it'd be nice to see it get fixed cause I really like that album.

Since I have had no other issues with any of the hardware or software on my computer, demonic possession is unlikely. So far all of the songs that are doing this have been songs that were purchased directly through iTunes. This would mean that I did not mislabel anything. I believe that this issue started shortly after the last iTunes update but I could be wrong. As for starting my own thread on the subject… I already had. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5809339

I heavily use iTunes match to share my home library to iTunes installed on my PC at work. Today I ran into the Rammstein - Carly Simon issue, did a search and wound up here. Amazingly, I visited this exact thread about a year ago when I too experienced the Beastie Boys - Kings Of Leon issue. I just checked, and shockingly, the Beastie Boys - Kings Of Leon issue still occurs for me! (and no, I don't have the song already downloaded, iTunes just pulled it).

For me, I've also seen the following issues:

- Getting the clean version of songs that should have explicit lyrics

- Getting instrumental only versions of songs (Lebanese Blonde by Thievery Corporation is one I can think of off the top of my head)

- Cover artwork that is clearly a photograph someone took of an album (artwork for the album 'The Least Worst of Type O Negative' actually has a visibly torn promotional sticker on it).

I should also mention, that about once every other month iTunes deceides something is wacky and rescans my whole library for iTunes match, so it isn't like this is the result of some ancient scan it did last year.

So, it's pretty sad to see that Apple hasn't really done much to address the various issues with iTunes match since its launch.

I just listened to an old album and had to endure all sorts of stupid edits where there's usually lyrics, some in places I didn't even realize there was a curse word. I *cannot* believe Apple still hasn't found a fix for this. It's been nearly 3 years. This is a SERIOUS issue with a music service changing peoples' songs! It's absolutely unbelievable to me that a company with the resources they have, and how much they claim that music is in their blood, that they're completely ignoring this critical flaw in their service. I've been a huge iTunes fan from day one, but I'm actively looking at alternative streaming services now. The problem is, it's a huge pain because I have hundreds of iTunes playlists that I just can't lose (and importing them into Spotify was a spectacular failure). If you haven't, please send Apple feedback about this. I have. Several times now. https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes

Funny.... A year later and I am having the same issue with the same two songs only in reverse. I was jamming to Check Your Head when all of sudden this random song came on for Somethings Got To Give. I had no idea what the song was until I found your post. I googled it and sure enough, that was the song. I checked my Library to see if maybe my wife had added it at some point but it is not in my Library at all.

Aside from the getting the occasional Clean version of a rap song here and there, this is the first time I've had a completely different song play. Much less one that isn't even in my library.
