Is this Apple's business to check does my credit card belong to this country or not? I may have credit cards in dfferent countries and I can use them wherever I want. I can buy salt from the market with this credit card in a completely different country but I cannot buy applications from App Store. This is ridiculous.

If it is a bug, just fix it. If it is a kind of a "security" policy, I have to say that: "it is ********!"

Same problem as everyone else, noticed it about 1.30am last night, reentered my card details and still get the message that the card isn't valid... incedentally recieved an email from apple just under 20 minutes ago, which was a reciept of payment (payment taken today) for in app purchases that I purchased yesterday... so how can my card not be valid yet apple's still managed to take money from my account. very odd. I emailed apple support but yet to recieve any acknowledgment. surprised theres no word from apple yet... very reassuring 😐

I have tried to update my card details with valid UK Visa, Mastercard and Amex cards on both my pc and ipad repeatedly since 11pm last night. Phoned ipad technical support and explained waht is happening but was only sent an email with a link to their Fast Lane online support page. Why can't I speak to a human being to get this resolved and why, given most of the planet seems to be affected, can't apple put a service notice on itunes to replace the message "the payment card you entered is not valid in United Kingdom itunes store"?

Exactly same problem here - Scotland, UK

I suspect this is indeed a security breach issue. The fact that this has happened relatively suddenly and appears to be widespread globally suggests to me that Apple have simply blocked all credit card transactions outside the US until they work out a solution. Hopefully our details are being protected as part of the process, otherwise this could prove to be a major PR disaster for them. What's the betting it's all over the news later on today.

If thats the case, why are they allowing US to make purchases and not us?

Why is it UK/Europe/New Zealand can't buy stuff and US can?

I think it's more just a tech hitch then a "hacking".

I highly doubt any credit card detials have been stolen. As everything is encrypted (as they say, and I hope) all your detials should be fine.

no, if you check the other forums you will see that there has been a huge issue since yesterday.

also, its not the credit cards that are stolen, all the damage is in-store, they empty the cards/acounts inside the store. Its been quite a problem the last year (http://edition.cnn.com/2012/02/07/tech/apple-itunes-hacking/index.htmlhttp://) but it seems yesterday was quite the attack.

Same here in Brazil. I made a purchase using my credit card last Sunday, today I tried to make a in app purchase and was asked to confirm my payment data, after doing so I received the message "O cartão de crédito informado não é válido para a iTunes Store Brasileira" (the entered credit card is not valid for the Brazilian iTunes Store).

Have just spoken to customer support who tell me that its a known issue affecting all UK users at least. Theyre working on it and expect it to be back up and running soon. Lady said to wait and try again in a few hours in the hope that it has been fixed.

Amusingly they have also just sent me a receipt for a purchase made 2 days ago so theyre clearly able to process sales against my "non valid in the UK" card.

Left Hand right hand scenario. I got the response for CS on the telephone that it was aknown issue at least within the UK and that it was being corrected. I then received a response from Express way email stating the same. THe issue appears to have now been corrected. But no public notice that it has as far as Im aware. Theemail response I received did say that I would receive another mail telling me when issues are fixed - I havent had that mail yet though the issues , At least for me, appear to have been resolved.
