Updated to 5.0 and now TV shows are out of order

I just updated to software version 5.0 and now the TV shows in the Computers section are listed non-alphabetically and not even numerically by season. Has anyone else noticed this?

I have this issue also - 2 Apple TVs, 1 updated, 1 not. Only started happening once iTunes was upgraded to 10.6.

Have also done a bug report. Have also removed all TV shows from iTunes and added them again. They are now in order (sort of) however, the shows starting with "The" are with the shows starting with T. Added one new show after this and I could not find it untill I found it at the very bottom of the list.

I'm having the same issue. Bug report filed. This glitch has made my Apple TV a useless piece of poodinger. WIth over 100 TV shows each with multiple seasons, finding the one episode I want in the one season I want is dang near impossible with the seemingly random sort order.

The new UI is awful too. I could tolerate it if I could just find that one episode I wanted to watch.

Unless you are worried about playcounts and things showing as watched, I think it is worth deleting the TV shows and then re-adding them.

I'm sure Apple will solve this, but it is likely to take a few weeks. If you delete and re-add then it will put them back into a far better order, as the order they are in finder is likely to be almost alphabetical (except for things like "The" and "A").

I did mine earlier, and it took about an hour for almost 500 series, and I did it in slightly more detail, as I have some particular sorting requirements (i.e. my sons programmes at the top). If you aren't as worried about things like that then it could just take a few minutes.

Obviously it isn't a long term solution, but it makes the ATV useable whilst we wait for Apple to fix it.

OK, it definitely seems to be iTunes 10.6. I downgraded to 10.5.3 and my shows are back in the correct order. I followed the downgrading instructions in this other thread:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3786818?answerId=17790785022#17790785022&tstart=0#17790785?tstart=0

I did *not* delete the preferences files but I did follow the instructions otherwise. Please be very careful if you do this and be sure to have backups.

Hopefully Apple will deliver a real fix soon. While they're at it, I wish they would give us another level of "folders". Right now they have:

TV Show 1 Season 1

TV Show 1 Season 2

TV Show 1 Season 3

TV Show 2 Season 1

TV Show 2 Season 2

...

I wish that at the top level they'd just list TV shows:

TV Show 1

TV Show 2

...

Then let us drill into a show to see the seasons.

I updated, and tried to watch a show that started with "A" I had just added but couldn't see at the top of my list like before. I ended up removing and re-adding it ten times before I realized that the sorting was screwed up.

I can't figure out how it's being sorted, so for the time being, I just created a play list so I could see things in order.

I also wish they would group things by Show, THEN season, or just let you choose how you want it sorted, like in the finder.

Didn't they make this same mistake (or a very similar one, at least the issue with titles having "the" in them) on a major update about a year to 18 months ago? I seem to recall it took a week or two to fix. Or the issue a few months ago where playback was severely broken (some of us reverted to using airplay from the mac side to avoid the issues) they pushed out a quick fix in a few days.

I suppose to comes down to if they think this is a bug or a feature.

Personally, I'd think they could solve this by adding another sort choice at the top.. have "By Show" and "By Show and Date" or something to allow for both sorting methods since I'm sure there are some (crazy) people out there that actually like this sorthing method.

EDIT: Oh, and I'd also love to see an option added in to go back to the old method of bunching shows together vs each season being on one line. Preferrably a show would then lead to a screen with the season choices to allow drilling down into each season separately.

@wkrp28 I have in the past requested that "Enhancement" also.

For shows like Doctor Who which is into its 30+ season, it's a real pain to scroll past all of the seasons.

Another thing that changed a few months ago was the art. If you have different art for each episode (as is the case with Docror Who) it used to show the art correctly. as of a few months ago, it will only show 1 (randomly chosen) art for the entire series. It's not a big issue, just annoying when a feature like this is taken away.

So three things please Apple:

1. correct the sorting of TV Shows problem i.e. return to they way it was done in v10.5.3

2. revert back to showing art for each episode

3. add a "season" layer between the TV Show and the episodes

Updated to 5.0 and now TV shows are out of order
