Updated to 5.0 and now TV shows are out of order

I just updated to software version 5.0 and now the TV shows in the Computers section are listed non-alphabetically and not even numerically by season. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes, absolutely that would happen. However, it is only ever suggested as a temporary solution, and at least it will only be a couple of shows out of order, rather than everything. As it is, my library is spot on at the moment and will slowly start to show these problems, by which time we will hopefully get 10.6.1 through.

I considered downgrading iTunes, but I'm getting a new iPad on Friday for which the tech specs say it needs 10.6 so this is really the only solution for the moment.

Edit: By the way, I believe that the shows are listed in order of date added, based on the date of the first show added in a series. Therefore, adding a new episode won't mess it up. Totally new series added will obviously go to the bottom though.

Not convinced that this is correct, either.

I had a tv show - 1 episode from a series - added in 2006. Next, an entire season of a show shot in 2003 that was ADDED in 2011. Following that, another single show from a 2009 season, a different series. That 2nd show listed mentioned above, had 7 seasons total. All were added in 2011. But they are not in order, even in the order they were added.

Message was edited by: ShouldaboughtaZen Meant this as reply to someone stating that sorting "By Show" on ATV2 was in fact sorting "by date added".

Yes, there are issues with the remote App, such as the one you have noted.

I don't use the remote App generally because of the sorting issues. I use the sort field to put things in the places where I want them (My sons programmes are at the top of the list for ease of use, and I keep music related programmes at the bottom), but the Remote App ignores the sort fields. It's been like it for ages.

Anyway, hopefully this is just a temporary issue.

It does seem that people are getting slightly differing results.

After posting my message yesterday, I added a show to an existing series, and it hasn't affected where it shows up in the library. However, if I change the metadata for that episode so that it doesn't associate with that series then it drops down to the bottom of the list. Change the metadata back and it goes back into the series in the correct place.

Now, if I change the metadata of episode 2 in that series (which was added at the same time as the rest of the series), it doesn't drop to the bottom of the list, but shows up directly below the series, not at the bottom.

Finally, if I change the metadata of episode 1, it shows up above the rest of the series, as it was added before the earliest episode that is left in the series.

I have played around with this quite a bit now, and can say almost with certainty (I appreciate there may be something else which is causing all this that I'm missing) that my TV shows are being shown in order of date added, based on the earliest show added in any series.

It is very possible that others may be getting different results of course.

Folks, this is an issue with the Apple TV OS and not iTunes as I have seen mentioned in this thread. I have a generation 1 AppleTV which sorts just fine on iTunes 10.6 but my two generation 2 AppleTVs do not.

Nope.

This is an issue that is caused by the update to iTunes. If affects the way that TV shows are sorted on the Apple TV 2 only. You are correct in saying that it doesn't affect the Apple TV 1, but it is still the iTunes update that caused the problem to occur.

I will say once again:

If you have not updated your iTunes then the TV shows are displayed in the correct order whether or not you have updated the Apple TV.

If you have updated your iTunes then the TV shows are not displayed in the correct order whether or not you have updated the Apple TV.

Obviously the Apple TV 2 pulls this information from iTunes in a different way to the Apple TV 1, but it is the iTunes update that is causing the information to be wrong.

Interesting if you were having the problem before iTunes updated. It isn't what everyone else has been reporting.

I had one Apple TV that was unupdated, as it is for our conservatory and we'd bought everything in for the winter. We set it up again today and I did a test before updating the OS. It was suffering the problem before and after updating.

I also have a Mac which hasn't had iTunes updated yet. I tested that by putting some random TV shows on it. They sort correctly on an updated ATV2.

Human memory is faulty. If I am wrong, then I am wrong. I have no issues with that.

I have multiple Macs in my house and can probably test this when I get home - and I will apologize here in public if I am wrong. I will even come back later and say I was wrong and you were right if there is an iTunes update that fixes this issue and I can't test this setup.

How many random shows did you put on your secondary system ? Where they seasons or individual episodes of different shows ?
