It would seem that the amount of RAM in the iPad 1 is the limiting factor. The iPad 1 has only 256MB of internal RAM. The iPhone 4, 4S, and iPad 2 all have 512MB of RAM. The new iPad has 1GB of internal RAM.

The new iPad received a total Geekbench score of 756, essentially identical to that of the iPad 2, although Geekbench only tests processor and memory performance and does not address graphics capabilities that are the focus of improvements in the A5X. The A5X offers the same 1 GHz CPU found in the A5, and bumps the RAM from 512 MB to 1 GB as had been predicted and suggested in leaked screenshots of a debug tool for the device.

Khurt,

I agree with you on this. RAM seems to be the problem. Saying you need a camera is a strange/confusing decision on apple's part. It definately appears to be the lack of adequate RAM. I installed iPhoto for IOS on my iPad(1st gen) via the iphone config utility. At first glance the program works great. However, once I tried to use "Auto Enhance" it crashes every time. Still works good for creating journals and other sharing, just not a lot of editing.
