Keyboard, trackpad stops working after unfolding

I got a brand new Macbook Air the other week.

I noticed that sometimes, after folding the computer (with the OS running), then unfolding it - the keyboard and trackpad are not responding at the login screen. Actually if I press the keyboard it lights up properly but there is no access to the system. The only thing that works is the power button, so every time I have to power down the computer, then back on again.

Is this a know problem or should is my computer broken?

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

I have a similar problem; but my mac air does not recover when I reboot! Basically, my keyboard and trackpad are frozen, but computer can work with an external Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I brought it to my local apple shop and to a genius bar but no help given! finally, a work colleague installed snow leopard. The keyboard worked for a brief period before it stopped again. We reinstalled and reset the PRam. The computer worked for a few weeks and now it has just reverted! No keyboard, no trackpad, no suggestions. My local apple shop offer no help. This is very frustrating.

I am having similar issue. My brand new Mac Book Air 13" mid-2012 keyboard and trackpad, out of the blue, just stop working..... sometimes they start working again after a few seconds or minutes, sometines never.... I have a normal stock Mountain Lion, recently updated to 10.8.2 but problem was happening since 10.8

External Blutooth mouse works and the only solution is to restar or shutdown and turn computer on.

Quite depressing and useless....will try to follow some advice here and post later on

Thanks!

I had the same problem with 10.7.5. So I wiped the hard drive and installed 10.8.2 to see if some other applications are causing this and no luck. It still happens. So I took it to Genius bar and they did not do anything because problem cannot be reproduced, as usual. I have been Wintel user all my life and just bought this MBA to see why people are crazy about apple products. Now it seems to me it is just pretty product I cannot use reliablly. Sorry Apple.

This issue actually went away for me in 10.8.1 and then stupidly I thought it would be a good idea to update to 10.8.2!! The issue is now back but the battery problem seems to have gone away (i.e. I can put the MBA to sleep on 100% and wake it up 12 hours later to find only 1% of the battery depleted).

Talking of which, using Coconut Batter App, my MBA battery is now only holding 88% of its original charge. It's only 11 months old and I fully discharge it every time I use it before recharging (even though this isn't really necessary anymore!!).

BTW, the MBA doesn't freeze after sleep, only the keyboard and mouse stop working. If you plug in USB items they will work fine (a good way to produce a proper reboot)... It must be a driver / service issue.

OK, I'm not sure what fixed my KB/Touchpad problem. I had the exact same problem as Leonardo Cohen, above post.

I did two things at night on 10/16/2012.

1. reset PRAM by holding keys for three reboots then boot up as normal

2. and checked Software update and found out that there was official removing Java from Apple software update. So I did. And since then my MBA is functioning as it should. Knock on wood, this fixes the problem.

update: my issue was gone for a few weeks and now back. I tried to be very careful and log any new sotware, system update or settings that was changed but no able to track the issue into anything specific.

I arrived in Istanbul a few days ago (working on ther bid for the 2020 Olympic Games) and hav been usig my Mac Book Air only (back at home I do use my MBP 17" almost all the time...) and almost as I started to use the Mac Book Air on a daily basis, I have been suffering with this plague...

It is quite amazing we are having this issue.....but I suspect that only a machine replacement or motherboard replacment will fix this.....never saw a solution anywhere.....so far........by changing or updating whatever in Mac OS X.

:-(

Hope some of you guys can find a solution that will help all of us..

So I've been having this issue since I installed Unity. My keyboard and trackpad would become totally unresponsive after a screen lock or resume from sleep (rarely, but at least once a week). Today I had the bright idea to plug in a USB mouse... all of a sudden I had full mouse control through USB AND the trackpad. Keyboard came back as well.

Not sure if this helps, but I sure was happy to get back in so I could save my work.

i'm having the same problem on my MacBookPro9,1 without being able to find the root issue

i have parallel desktop (all usb devices are opt out of parallel) and Unity3D both installed

but both are completely shut down when i close my lid, so i'm not sure that would be the cause (except if they fiddle with the drivers)

today, as this problem came again, the only thing hat was still active when i went to sleep was a network drive still mapped

i checked the log (Utilities/Console) and found this

i open the lid once, then as keyboard and trackpad were not responding, i closed it again and reopened it

what can be seen is that i have a lot of

kernel[0] AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::_getFeatureReportInfo - DeviceRequest returned with result 0xe0004057 - retrying (reportID 0xa1)

so i'm not sure what to do with this error code, it looks like a problem in Apple USB touchpad driver

google did not give any hints on the resolution

so is it an hardware issue?
