iCloud Mail Down (12:30PM eastern, Apr 17, 2012)?

I was in the middle of responding to an email on iCloud.com's mail interface, and all of the sudden the "Send" button grayed out. I see I have 1 item in my drafts folder, which must be the last auto-saved draft of the reply I was typing up, but I cannot get to the draft. On iCloud.com, the loading spinner just spins and spins and eventually I get an error saying the folder can't be loaded. Same thing happens when I try to go back to the Inbox. I tried to load up the draft on my iPhone 4S, but it also just keeps spinning and never loading the draft. The fact that the problem is occuring on two devices (on separate network connections, one PC on my office's wifi and the other my 4S on AT&T's 3G network) seems to imply that the problem is server-side. Is anybody else seeing these problems?

I'm located in Tallahassee, FL. Not sure if that matters, but I suppose it could be a regional outage.

I contacted Apple directly by ExpressLane and:

  • There is a problem with the server
  • We are working on it
  • Try again in 15 hours, maybe it will be fixed by then

On this issue, and others, Apple is NOT forthcoming:

  • It does not notify customers of the problem
  • It does not articulated the cause of the problem when contacted
  • It does not provide a solution
  • It does not contact the customer after 'the fix' to explain what happened, and what the customer might need to do.

There are now several threads about this issue; Apple has us spread all over its message boards and is not providing any information.

Other customers had this problem in March 2012, and created several threads.

Apple ain't what it used to be. 😠

Mail still down in London at 14:56 (GMT) & its shocking that Apple's System Status page still states that 'All systems are online'.

Like everyone else, we know there is a problem as it patently obvious when you have 5 IOS devices & not 1 will receive an email from a non Apple e-mail address & the Mail App on iMac is exactly the same. Whats interesting is that i can send a mail from IOS to a non Apple e-mail, just cant receive anything back.

All i ask is that Apple tell me there is a problem without me having to waste my time searching different threads to find an answer.

Poor show Apple, very poor show.

Lol, I noticed that exact same thing. What a joke. Lawdoggies is correct...."Apple is NOT forthcoming". For the life of me, I don't understand the deception. Why not be upfront and honest about it? If they simply acknowledge the situation, I think most people would be understanding. But to ignore our requests for information and updates is not acceptable.
