IOS 5.1.1. update bug (Volume Control)

This thread concerns IOS 5.1.1. update and the subsequent loss of volume button functionality and use of internal speakers.

Please can someone help from the mac team!

It's not a jailbreak phone. only purchased in early April on O2. Updated to 5.1.1. yesterday morning and now the volume buttons are virtually redundant!. Here are the symptoms;

  1. When the volume buttons are pressed on the home screen i get "ringer" and the speaker symbol appear but nothing more (ie. +/- volume)
  2. When playing back from iTunes with no headphones in, I get nothing through the internal speakers, nor do the volume buttons work, nor is the volume slider visable.
  3. When i playback Youtube content with no headphones in, I get nothing through the internal speakers, nor do the volume buttons work, nor is the volume slider visable.
  4. With headphones plugged in sound is audible and volume buttons work.
  5. Whilst using voicemail, (no headphones connected) i can play the message through the speakers and control volume using side buttons.

What's the deal Mac Support? I have restored the phone twice and also given the headphone jack a good blow with Servisol Duster 101.

Thanks, P

I did the same, and it started to work immediately, after upgrading to 6.0 things were fine for a few hours, than I got a random text message, and after opening the text (sounds were there) closed it, sounds were gone.

Finally I just got an old toothbrush- (or get a new one for stronger brissles) applied a small dab of rubbing alcohol to the brush and cleaned the inside of the charge port/connection port on the bottom of the phone, cleaned it very well I might add- taking my time to make sure just not to jam the brush in there and go to town just used the top of the brush to clean the connection/charge port- allowed the alcohol to dry, and now it seems to be working fine.

Though time will tell if this is a permanent fix or not- seems that there is some truth to the dust/lint getting caught up in this connector/charge port and making the iPhone think its still docked somehow.

Good Luck.

All this...same here. Songs even stop playing after I've figetted with the volume and made that come back on. This is a bug in the new i OS. I can not listen to my music on my iphone any longer. It's broken now.

Apple, you released a really bad operating system, and my precious iPhone has been rendered useless. I expect it fixed ASAP. Or at least a roll back to the old i OS.

Thanks.

Upgraded to iOS 6 on my iPad3 via wifi and had same issues. Sounds via headphones but nothing via speakers despite volume control settings. I fixed my problem by resetting default behavior of mute switch (had changed it to orientation lock prior to upgrade). Once it was set to function as mute again, normal sound for all apps and games through speakers was restored. What an annoying bug.

Hi,

I have had these same huge problems myself. The issue is where I connect the power. It seems either the powercable or the plug is damaged so when I unplugged the cable it was still in docking mode.

You can check this my clicking twice on home buttom and scroll far to left. You will then see volume and to the right you can see if its connected to tv, docking or what it should be iphone.

How I fixed this was to take a usb cable and connect it to my laptop and iphone and then unplugged. Checked after with doubletap (love that movie if you know what I mean!) and scrolled to left and now volume was at max and it showed as connected to iphone and no longer docking.

Now all my sounds works great and I get a sound again when I get new emails...!

So this is NOT a bug for me at least, it is either damaged iphone or cable, I am guessing the first one, we was sailing a few weeks ago...

I do NOT read forums, but if more info is needed you can contact me on an at bitpro dot no

Cheers!
