my safari menu bar is missing --the menu bar for desktop, HD, and apps appears, but when I click on Safari, it disappears, so I can no longer see my buttons for History, etc. I think my husband (pc user) clicked it away. Any ideas how to retrieve it?

I'm usually not rude (i hate it when people are) and personally it takes a lot to get me angry, but it gets to me when people automatically assume people are dumb. I'd been searching for hours for an answer, each one saying the same thing 'press the esc key or cmd/f' and so when i posed my question i made sure to make it clear i knew what i was talking about in the first post, so i didn't get people acting like i'm stupid - but even that didn't work cos people didn't believe it was even a problem...oh well, i worked it out myself so it worked out ok in the end, but thank you for appreciating my advice and letting me know.

I am also having the same problem. It's not a zoom thing

It's a setting for Safari... Safari's new idea is to make the browser window as customized as you want. ... I read this article http://browsers.about.com/od/56/ss/show-menu-bar-safari-5_3.htm and it seems to help for windows version of Safari because still can't fix it on my mac. Anyone know a way to fix it for mac?

I know exactly what you're talking about, but unfortunately I have the same problem and don't have a solution. And to those patronising folks who have turned this thread into an argument, are you even trying to help or are you just bored?? I can understand these guys frustration as (for seemingly no reason) our search and address bars have disappeared. If you don't have something useful to say, say nothing at all.

ghost and briesworld -- We're honestly not trying to be rude . . . but if you both could start your own new topic here on your own situation, we would be happy to work on it with you. There are so many things that can cause this, it's just so much easier to work on it, one at a time. We're all just other Mac users here, volunteering our time to share solutions.

I am also experiening this issue for the first time.. it's in a dual monitor config if that matters. If safari is the active window, the menubar hides itself as if I were in full screen mode which I am most definately not. Does anyone know why this occured? I'm a first time Lion user and owned a mac for almost a month and this is the 3rd or 4th major bug I've encountered that involved repairing permissions. Is it typical to have to repair permissions in recovery mode once a week? If so, they should just have it do it automatically like Windows does defragging on spinning discs when idle.

I've just had the same problem. Safari was open but I couldn't see the menu bar without clicking at the top of the screen, but could with any other program open, but have solved it by quitting and re-opening safari.

It's a strange bug that seems to have multiple causes? It happened to me a couple of days ago, I think it was caused somehow by clicking through links on Youtube when I had the videos on full screen. My iMac had a bit of a mental moment and from then the menu had gone. I've just read through the forums and tried the ctrl + cmnd + f and checking through my view settings and was getting a bit peeved as I couldn't work out why it had happened or why I couldn't change it, but again quitting and re-opening seems to have solved it - for now and forever I hope, it was a minor but annoying pain!

I'm not trying to insult anyones intelligence with this comment - This is my first comment in apple forums as well so hope I've kept within the rules and such - just thought i'd mention my issue and solution incase it helped to trouble shoot!

KSheppard, I perfectly see your point of view! I have had the same problem and have not yet found the solution apart from quitting Safari and reopening it - and it is incredibly frustrating when people keep ignoring your comments and reiterating advice that is entirely unhelpful. Not totally their fault, but there is a lack of understanding here. All I can find is a description of the problem being an attribute (apparently a characteristic that is desirable for a more minimal window environment) of this version of Safari 5.1.7 that is as a result of viewing in full screen mode (a Microsoft Silverlight issue for LoveFilm), but not any advance on how to fix or prevent it. I shall be keeping my eyes open for a solution and will post if I find anything. Please do the same - good luck!
