my safari menu bar is missing --the menu bar for desktop, HD, and apps appears, but when I click on Safari, it disappears, so I can no longer see my buttons for History, etc. I think my husband (pc user) clicked it away. Any ideas how to retrieve it?

B-Stodd - I'm afraid you have not understood the full implications of the problem: there is no View option to select, as the entire Menu bar has disappeared. The only solution I have yet found is to Quit Safari and relaunch.

Heh heh, yes - I discovered this after posting!! Spot the Mac novice (again - after a sad break from Macs for a few years!)! Still no other solution to the disappearing menu bar apart from Quitting and reopening Safari.

Here is the best answer I've found for this problem (losing the Menu Bar)

http://www.macmousecalls.com/files/the_case_of_the_missing_menu_bar.html

When your Menu bar does not show (no Safari/File/Edit/View etc) your Safari is in Full Screen Mode

To get in and out of Full Screen Mode (Getting out of Full Screen gives you your menu bar back), hold down the Ctrl + Cmd + F key or click on the full screen buttons on the menu. You can also get the menu bar back if you move your curser up to where the bar should be and click on ther far right icon of blue arrors. See the link above for screen shots and a better explanation.

This was happening for me, too, but in Firefox. I was looking at a window that clearly was *not* in full screen mode, and the menu bar was missing. I discovered that it happened after I'd opened a separate window that *was* in full screen mode -- and it impacted all of my Firefox windows. I restored the menu bar to my remaining windows by closing the window that was full screen.

I had the same problem with Foxfire. Try this:

While in Safari, on the apple icon from the title bar from Finder (when I clicked in the missing title bar area the Finder title bar came up) and get to force click. Close out Safari with a force click. When I did that with Foxfire, the next time I opened up Foxfire from the dock, the title bar was back.

Hope that works for you.

I encountered this problem when I was randomly hitting the keys on my keyboard in frustration when my safari froze. I use Windows; this means you are in full screen mode. Simplle fix for Windows users. Click Cntrl+Alt+F. This should bring back the menu icon as well as the address bar.

describes the problem I (and I suspect several others here) have, complete with screen shots. I am not in full screen mode, and the menu bar is not missing, it is there but invisible -- ie, specifically 'View' is invisible. I am not hovering and having it drop down as in full screen mode, it is there all the time right where it is supposed to be, but it can't be seen. For me it is black-on-black, but if I go to where I know the buttons are and click, the specific button I just clicked will appear as blue-on-black and is functional with a second click.

This has only happened a couple of times and I have solved it both times with a reboot, but in the future I will experiment with other options and report back.
