iTunes Match stuck at "Sending information to Apple"

This started happening two days ago and I'm still stuck at step 1.. If I disable and re-enable iTunes Match it syncs once and then if I update iTunes Match I'm stuck at "Sending.." again.. Is somebody else having this problem?

So far the iTunes Match off/on isn't working for me (I'm down again with a 4010 message) but I will keep trying. Auto renew is definitely still OFF. 😟

I had also had no luck with the turning off/on iTunes Match. Frustrated, I went beyond these boards and found a couple of blogs that mentioned holding down the option key when you turn off ITM.( I also may have seen it on these boards from a frustrated commenter who was listing some of the things that Apple support suggested. Either way, I gave it a try.) Nowhere did I see any explanation about what holding the option key does or why I should do that. My guess is that it forces a rescan of your library since the first step, collecting information about your library, took much longer than usual. That used to be the only step that went quickly. Bottom line, I got through the whole matching process, but it took a long time. Walk away for 20 minutes and do something else. I am not even sure the option button trick is what did it since, in the recent past, I have gotten through, randomly.

One odd side effect: 3 songs that had previously been matched are now uploaded. Weird since these were "Matched AAC" songs that I had downloaded from the ITS. To me, this is proof that the matching process is flawed. Some of the exlanations on this board about why some songs do not match - how ITM uses waveforms and I must have a recording from a different master, just different enough that it does not match (eventhough it is from the same album) - well, this kind of blows away that explanation doesn't it?

Yes and no. Early on in the service, there was an iTunes update that claimed "Match improvement". I did a test with a few hundred songs that were previously uploaded and, sure enough, about a dozen or so now matched where they didn't match before.

But, other songs that had matched before now uploaded, again just a handful. What that was telling me was that Apple had tweaked their waveform scanning somehow - it fixed some songs, and yet broke others. That's my guess.

I too have had a few songs that were previously uploaded, that eventually were matched. But I have only been using ITM since mid May, so perhaps they are continually "tweaking" the matching process. Either way, this shows that there is some randomness and impermanence of the matching process. My big complaint with Apple is that they oversell the capability of ITM and do not publicly acknowledge the bugs.

More importantly, my example is a slightly different case since these 3 songs had been downloaded from the iTunes Store so how could it be that their waveforms (or anything else) did not match.

Mine were the same - I had Matched files that I tried to re-match later (as a test) and they were uploaded. I cannot explain it either. I never tried to re-match my old files so perhaps there was a difference there.

I know that doesnt' make much sense, but it's all guesswork on our part anyway. A better test would be to have taken the original files and then rematch those, to see if they upload. In other words, your original files may have been closer to a Match than the actual Matched files!

Another possibility (however unlikely) is that between Match attempt one and Match attempt two, the songs in the itunes database may have been altered. For example, perhaps the label made a "Mastered for iTunes" version which became the new mastering. Again, unlikely but possible.

It seems that now the issue now relates with using iTunes Genius. You cannot update it at all. So that's iTunes Match and iTunes Genius who are getting the error 4010 and 4001. One of two things are happening: 1) they're updating for ios 6 and/or 2) their servers are down because of the heat in the us this past wk. the latter is from an AppleCare rep I just spoke with.

So now to re tell- no iTunes match and iTunes genius. Please confirm iTunes genius is doing the same with anyone else. I had tried with 2 computers and I'm getting the same results.

I concur with jms... I turned on Genius today and had forgotten all about doing so. I'd had another problem with files that wouldnt download to my iOS devices (another story) seemed to fix that, but then got stuck at 'sending information to Apple....' (and this thread)

Another poster reminded me that I'd turned on Genius today, so I turned off itunes match, then genius - because you can't just turn off genius if you have ITM running (there's a pointer right there that these two are not good together!) and then turned ITM back on.... all working again, sans Genius of course, but I can live with that

Genius not so, err, clever, it seems....?

I just subscribed to iTunes Match yesterday and it scans my library, goes to "sending information to Apple", matches some (up to 4,000 songs of 6,000) of my music not all of it (albums found in iTunes are missing songs), and then finally not uploading any of music that hasn't been matched, very dissapointing coming from Apple, hope this issue gets resolved as soon as possible otherwise I will be asking for a refund, such is just not acceptable.

I am glad to report the Genius feature has been updated by Apple.

The way by which this feature works is by a 15-16 month cycle of songs that people have listened to.

For instance, the last time the iTunes Genius was updated prior to last week was February 2011. I believe Genius only works when people have listened and purchased songs for an extensive period of time. So to Genius a song that was released in the last month such as No Doubt's "Settle Down" you'll have to wait well into next year to try it. That is on less the update Genius with the new "under-the-hood" updates iTunes will go through by the end of September-October.
