Well, setting some suspect apps to 'open in low res' made things better, but not perfect.
But, I have found that setting energy saver preferences to never put the display to sleep solves this for me.
This significantly cuts your battery time, but it's better than constantly dealing with the glitches.
BTW: Here's how I can make it happen almost every time:
Set energy saver preferences to put display to sleep in 1 minute.
Open all my 'normal' apps, one or more of which - I suspect - cause the problem.
Put the MBP in screen saver mode and wait the 1 minute, till the display turns black.
Wake it up - voila: the glitches are almost always present.
Note: I'm set up to require password for screen sleep and screen server. Not sure if that contributes to the issue.
