Retina Macbook Pro LCD Mura (White Spot)

I just got my brand new retina screen Macbook Pro today and after a few hours of use, I noticed a light spot in the mid-lower left side of the screen. It's a cloudy light spot also known as mura. ***** that this innovative new screen on the expensive as heck MBP retina has this issue. I'll have to see what can be done about it at the Apple store, but I don't want to be without my new laptop (which I need for work) for over a month.

Anyone else with a new MBP retina seeing the same issues?

I just realized this happend to my retina macbook as well. Exactly the same problem (white spot, appears only when background is white/bright). Called apple support and he suggested to turn on the macbook and the display for 24 hour non stop and see if this solves the problem. In my recent support activities page it's mentioned "Something may have been spilled on or around the unit", and case closed. Very disappointing...

I had the same problem and its been almost a month so I couldnt just return it. But I took it in to a local apple servise provider and they looked at it and offered to replace the screen for me overnight for free, and I didnt even pay extra for apple care when I ordered my Retina Macbook. This is definatley a manufacturing issue so if it happens take it in a demand a free replacement at the cost of the computer your entitled to one.

I have the same problem with my screen. I'm sure it wasn't there in the first couple months, as I was pretty careful in my constant inspections of the screen. However, there's now definitely a white spot in the lower right quadrant of the screen and it's extremely frustrating. Now I have to arrange to have the computer serviced at a very inconvenient time. Also, it's a Samsung screen - so it's not just affecting LG screens!

Bought my MBPr on the 26th of july. Today is the 23rd of September and I notice this white spot. Extremely upset with this situation. Bought a laptop that's gonna be "problem free" as apple is suggesting. I live in Belgium, no Apple Stores here, only authorised dealers. This implies I need to either come to the UK or somewhere closer, give in my laptop and probably going to have to wait for a long time. I can't contact UK support because i don't have a British phone number, I mean this system is b****cks. How am I even going to resolve this?

I discovered the same problem as you…bright spot in the middle of my screen and I bought it 4 weeks ago.. I went to an "cami store" located at Ixelles (Brussels) and they told me to go to an official Apple repair store based in Dilbeek. They can repair the screen… If you are looking for more information:

The girl told me they are able to repair it whitin 5 working days (fair enough)... I will bring them my laptop next monday, I can keep you in touch if u want...However so strange that so many people have this issue with the best screen ever build by Apple.... Can you tell the fabrication date of your retina? mine is mid-2012...

You can determine the build week by entering your Mac's serial number into the search field in the top left of this site: http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com/Desktop/index.php

I have a new retina with a minor mura leak om the bottom left of the screen. I've seen this type of leak before, it shows up only when the screen is fully black. Given how little this happens (games) I don't know if its worth taking back considering worse problems exist. The display is amazing and I love the machine, wish it was perfect however.

These issues unfortunately seem to be a possibility anytime you have a LCD panel (my ipad 2 had mura leaks really badly).

Production week: 28 (July)

That's when my macbook was made
I've contacted the reseller of my macbook and they told me to take it in

Further problems with the laptop
After changing energy saving settings the laptop crashed

It wouldn't boot no matter what

tried verbose to see what was wrong, tried to reset VRAM nothing.

Had to restore the whole system, lost valuable files but some where backed up thank god

Is there a way to give this laptop back? I am very disappointed by apple on this. I somehow knew that the dual graphics would cause problems. If they give me a brand new one without problems or money back then I'm good.

Sigh.

My first Retina had the LG image retintion issue. I swapped it out and got lucky (so I thought) with a samsung.

Today, I was rebooting and noticed that there are about 4 mura spots in the lower left hand side of my screen. I've had the laptop about 2 months.

What is apples policy on repairs? How long does it usually take? This is pretty frustrating spending half of my student budget on a macbook only to have this many problems.

I have 4 weeks off between semesters starting next week. So hopefully I can get this resolved by then.

Awe man! I just noticed three spots on my display and I've had it since June 22, 2012. It almost certainly would have noticed it sooner, so I'm thinking it developed over time. It's quite obvious now that I've noticed it. I was hoping it was just a smudge on my screen but after cleaning it up, those three brighter spots remained. Ugh. So frustrating. After my semester in school, I'll have to take it in. Glad to see at least that other people have this issue too, so I shouldn't have too much difficulty asserting that this is a known defect.
