Retina Macbook Pro LCD Mura (White Spot)

I just got my brand new retina screen Macbook Pro today and after a few hours of use, I noticed a light spot in the mid-lower left side of the screen. It's a cloudy light spot also known as mura. ***** that this innovative new screen on the expensive as heck MBP retina has this issue. I'll have to see what can be done about it at the Apple store, but I don't want to be without my new laptop (which I need for work) for over a month.

Anyone else with a new MBP retina seeing the same issues?

Same here on a rMBP (mid-2012) running on a LG screen. It`s an early production unit, received on 25th June 2012. Discovered the white spots a couple of days ago and taking it to the Genius bar tomorrow. IÂŽm not sure for how long I have had them, as my desktop picture is dark in which case they do not show.

White spots are just above the Safari browser icon. They look like from a spray can.

IÂŽm somewhat disappointed by Apple considering the price tag of the product. This is my first MacBook and not sure I would buy one again.

Same problem with mine. 15" MBPw/R not sure of the display manufactuer (is there anyway to tell?). I don't know if it was like that when I got it (Sep of 2012), but I just relized it today (Mar 14, 2013). I thought it was a something on the page. Nope, scrolled down, still there. Cleaned the glass, still there. The local Apple Store hates me, for many different reasons, but also because I got this Retina as a $100 replacement from my older 2011 MBP.

The dots appered right around the downloads folder in the dock. I'm going to take it Monday to see what the store is going to do.

I too have a bright white spot which developed over time. It was not present when first purchased back in late June 2012. I have noticed this a couple months ago. I have taken it in to a "genius" who quickly acknowledged the problem. He said they would replace the screen with a brand new one, which happens to be a samsung display. He told me if this still has a problem then they would replace the whole unit, which I believe it should be in the first case as my laptop is not even a year old and has this problem. This is unacceptable and should be dealt with immediately.

I will let you guys know the outcome next weekend when Im due to replace the screen.

Hi Ashdeh,

the Samsung one works perfect so far. I wasn't told whether the screen was a refurbished one but I would be surprised if it was... after all the screen is glued to the backlid so that's why they had to replace the lid as such. The lid and screen has no signs of usage so I am assuming it was a brand new one.

Cheers,

Rob

I'm pretty sure every single one of us would chose our retina display's over anything available even 5 years ago, much less 10 or 15 years ago. Alas it's 2013 and we paid good money for a good product and white spots don't really meet that expectation. Once I'm done my courses, I look forward to getting my display replaced.

On a side note, I do wonder what happens to these displays when they're found defective. It would be sad if they're destroyed, which is likely what happens 😐... Even if they were given to people who accidently break their displays, that would be better.

I was only making the point that Steve was alive and well when there were defective displays back in '98. I totally agree one shouldn't accept a defective display. (And, while $2500 - >$3000 is expensive, it's only relative to current technology costs. That 1998 Wallstreet 14" 292MHz set me back $6700 or so - in 1998 dollars.)

My data point on my rMBP was simply to state it's not all rMBPs having display problems (image retention, Mura, or whatever). Folks forget it's mostly negative experiences that get posted.
