Im going to test this out, wish me luck.

If your new MacBook is having kernel panics, or you're forced to run a 32-bit browser in Linux because you need Flash, Google's brought relief with version 20 of Chrome. While acting sheepish about "yet another release," the Chrome Blog said "hundreds of bugs" were fixed, including a MacBook resource leak issue which was temporarily patched by disabling some GPU features. Also, Linux users will finally get full 64-bit support for Flash with Adobe's PPAPI "Pepper" version, but since it was made exclusively for Chrome, Penguin users will be stuck with that browser if they want the feature. To get it, check the source after the br... oh, right, background update. Nevermind.

Also, I know this isn't the most IDEAL solution. But remove Parralels and try installing Virtual Box instead. See if you get any Kernal Pancis with it. I use VirtualBox have had no problems since and I believe it is comptable with the Parraels virtual drives (.hdd file).

I am suggesting this because if it works then we know it is not a Hardware problem but a Parralels problem.

Yes it's my first MacBook Pro with this issue, I have had many previous model the last one being the 2011 i7 never had Kernel Panics but did have issues with it locking up and the only way to clear it was powering down, also many beach balls.

It could be my Parallels VHD is corrupt possibly, my ultimate concern is if it's hardware of software.

There is a lot of lost time when you have these issues, so much data, copying files etc.

I got a response from Parallels....

Thank you for contacting Parallels Technical Support.

I understand that kernel Panics is occurring while closing and using Parallels.

First of all we would suggest you to quit Parallels and UN-install Parallels by referring below link:

http://kb.parallels.com/en/112189

Once the Parallels gets uninstalled then please perform 'Repair disk permissions' from Mac's Disk Utility(Application/Utilities/Disk Utility/) => restart the Mac and check status of the issue. If issue persist then you need to resolve this issue with the help of Apple. Then re-install Parallels and check if issue persist then please provide us following information to understand the issue better:

1. Have you installed any Mac,Parallels or Windows update before the issue occurred?

2. Are you getting any error message while starting Parallels or crashing? If yes then please send us a screenshot of that error message if possible.

3. Have you installed or updated any application on Mac before this issue occurred?

4. Could you please provide us more details regarding this issue?

Awaiting your reply.

Well it's happened again, I thought I had cured it or found the problem but alas it wasn't to be 😢

I purchased a new 1TB Hard Drive and did a complete reload of everything from scratch, I have never used Chrome and I didn't load Flash either.

I did a fresh install of Parallels 7, a fresh install of Windows & Pro 64Bit as well.

Just when I thought I'd cracked it - It Kernel Panicked !!! Son of a Gun !!!

As you will see my problems ARE NOT related to Chrome or Flash but the HD4000 and Parallels.

I'm taking it back tomorrow, I know I wasted time but I had to know my software wasn't the problem.

Anybody else with Parallels problems or HD4000 issues 🙂

I am going to recommend you swap it out, I can't seem to find anything effecting the 2012 Macbook and Parrallels. It seems like you are having an issue with the virtualization on your GPU. Back up everything onto an external hardrive, if we still have the problem then I would suggest try using VirtualBox instead (its free and works about as well).

One thing I haven't done is have a look through the Windows Event Viewer, see below:-

I will take this one back, and I'm going to have a play with Virtual Box and VM Ware, I'm also going to update Parallels support just in case they can help

Any Windows experts ???

That seems to be pointing to just Windows shutting down without the Start Menu Shutdown. In otherwords an improper shutdown.

I understand your reluctance to return. However, here is where I am finding the problem, the Intel Core processors have a hardware virtualization known as VT-x, I am concerned that there is an issue with your VT-x. Possibly your GPU as well.

If you don't feel like returning, can we we try runing VirtualBox? If VirtualBox works then I think there is a Software problem. If it continues to crash then we know we have a serious Hardware issue. VirtualBox is free of cost and I use it instead of Parralels: https://www.virtualbox.org/

It will help us pinpoint the problem. VirtualBox like Parrallels uses the VT-x unit on your processor. If it works without problem, then we know it is a Parralels problem, but if you still have the problem then it points to a hardware problem.
