Hi Ashayer,

I took the MacBook Pro back to the store yesterday afternoon and had it replaced without any issues, I spent most of yesterday night and this morning putting my mac life back together....

I have used it for the whole day without a single issue, then... went to shut down Parallels tonight and BAM!!!!

My MacBook Pro is only crashing potentially in Parallels - I've been on to Parallels support, quite frankly it's a joke and a waste of time for me, I'm guessing I am going to have to put up with this until either Apple fix the HD4000 issue, release Mountain Lion or when Parallels release Version 8.

This will teach me for wanting to buy the latest model, I may take this back and buy the old model again, at least it works !!!!

As you can imagine, I'm really fed up having wasted a whole week on this 😟

I dont know what else to do....

Hi Markbrads,

I did see this, well it rules out a hardware problem for sure then. Which is actually a really good thing, software problems are fixable hardware problems (especially on a Mac) are impossible and expensive to fix.

Can I ask did the image work alright on VMWare? Could VMWare read the imagine?

If not try VirtualBox instead. It can read Parralels images. As I said I use it instead of Parralels and it has served me quite well. If we don't get the problem in those then we can narrow it down to an issue with Parralels.

Let me know if that worked.

Hi Ashayer,

I've had no luck with VirtualBox, its me not VirtualBox. VMWare didn't crash but the programs awful compared to Parallels... I gave up on it after a couple of hours.

I've had a number of conversations with the Parallels support team (Level One) with no luck, but on Monday I received a positive email from Parallels:-

Thank you for the information provided.

The issue you reported was passed to our Development Team and is now processed by them in a separate system.

Right now I have to close the ticket, but please note that it only means the issue you reported cannot be resolved by means of Support Team and needs a deep involvement of Development Team.

In case we need any additional information from you or the Development team provides us with any quick fix/workaround we will reopen this ticket or create a new one to contact you. Please be sure we do not forget about our customers!

Please note that you will be able to contact us within 14 days after the ticket is closed.

Thank you for contacting Parallels Technical Support.

Based on the above I have to say how really impressed I am with Parallels and the level of support to date. I am an official Beta Tester for Parallels and have Version 8 to try however I decided to put if off until I got my new MacBook, as you know since then I had the ongoing issue which has made me decide to wait for a MacBook fix. My understanding is that there is a problem with the HD4000 and Parallels as there is a problem with Chrome and the HD4000, I do believe that Apple hold the key to this, hopefully with all the issues/post/complaints I have seen on the Internet the fix will come soon.

I keep you posted, let me have your email address.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Mark

Thanks for this info, at least I can stop wasting time with this until there is a fix. I have exactly the same issue (HD4000 related kernel panic crashes only when using parallels). I have done the same as you, did a fresh install of OS X Lion, with the same result: it's definitely an issue with parallels. I'm going to report the issue to technical support to make sure they have as many reports as possible.

EDIT: I have reported the issue, report# 16325751.

I have noticed it happens more often when the mabookc pro 13 is connected to an external monitor. Is it the case with yours?

Jul 11, 2012 2:18 PM in response to McManni

In the main I always use an external monitor, in my opinion you cant beat a 13" MacBook and an external monitor, gives the best of both world.

Mines crashes with and without however interestingly at the weekend I decided to load and use Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit, so far no crashes at all today....

Am I tempting fate

I noticed an update for Parallels tonight 🙂 cant remember the build number but noticed a few new features, bug fixes, support for USB 3 and hopefully a fix for the crashing with HD4000

Fingers crossed everybody.

Just to say that I had a kernel panic on build 15104 on my win x64 VM just after I installed the latest version of Flash.

Although it crashed just after installed (as Flash lauched the test page), Flash wasn't installed when I rebooted, so it looks like the install wasn't validated.

I'm going to try to run it without flash for a while, to see if they go away. Not a fix as I need flash but a way to narrow down the issue.

So unfortunately it's NOT fixed in the latest build and x64 isn't the solution (at least here).

Mark,

Unfortunately I got a disappointing answer from Paralllels support suggesting the standard KB article for kernel panic crashes (uninstall parallels, repair permissions, re-install parallels) which I had already done a while ago without success (some permissions couldn't be repaired) hence my fresh install of OS X to rule out any permission/OS upgrade issues.

Any chance you could post your support case ID so they can link the two cases?

Thanks,

Manni

Hi Manni,

Sure, I had the same thing from Parallels a couple of weeks ago, my case numbers were as below:-

[Parallels #1406214] Kernel Panics

My MacBook Pro is crashing for Olympics, well it would win a GOLD if it was a competition.

The picture below is the recent ones, it must have crashed at least 25+ times now 😠 problem is Windows is going mental and I'm really worried about losing data, I've got so many back up's snapshots, it's really having an impact on my work, I'm losing the plot !!!

Thanks

Thanks, so it is still crashing even on your new Win7 x64 VM? With and/or without Flash installed in the VM?

Here it seems much more stable without flash installed.

EDIT: by the way, if you have enough room on your hard drive to install bootcamp, it would resolve your issue if you spend most of your time in windows. If you install bootcamp, the bootcamp install will not crash, it only happens in parallels.

You can also convert your bootcamp install into a VM once it's created, so that you don't have to maintain/update two separate windows installs. That way you can use bootcamp until Parallels is fixed, and then use the bootcamp install as a VM when the Intel HD4000 bug is sorted, hopefully soon. You would then only need to reboot in bootcamp when you need the extra performance (usually for graphics intensive apps like games or photo/video editing, as HDD access tends to be faster in the VM and CPU/memory is about the same).
