Appstore download buttons not working

Hi Folks,

Since Saturday 23rd June 2012 the iOS Appstore download buttons don't work anymore. 😮

When trying to download an app, after I press the "free" button, the "install" button moves to the side, is rearranged oddly and won't work. I saw where someone suggested just syncing the iPhone with the computer and downloading from there, but I don't consider that as a solution, but only an ugly "patch" to solve a bug that Apple introduced last weekend when they updated the Appstore.

Anyone more suffering these issues? Which device and iOS version are you using? 😕

For you information, many users suffered this kind of problems 6 months ago and after many compaints from us, they fixed it!,... and now Apple did it again 😐

iPhone 3G, iOS 3.1.3, iTunes 10

torakaru, I am also experiencing this problem.... same screenshot as amandafromsalford. I have an iphone 3gs ios3.1.3.

I also read that Apple has updated the app store where the 3rd generation software isn't able to get anything from the app store anymore (and I hope this is not true). I wish this is just an app store issue.

Upgrading to higher ios is actually my last option. Looking forward that Apple could have this thing fix ASAP!

I noticed the issue with the back button dissapearing too, at least for the App Store.

The button disappears for me once the app info page has fully loaded, although there's a small window of time before the page loads where it shows up for a few seconds, so if you're fast enough you can "catch" it, lol.

Anyway, that issue should probably be a separate thread.

One other thing, if anyone else opens a ticket please make sure you include the following important information in your ticket:

  • Error Messages if any
  • Reproducibility, ie: 100%
  • Repro Steps
  • Expected Behavior
  • Actual Behavior
  • Regression? (an indicator whether this is a change against previous expected behavior)

As a developer and a tester I can't stress enough how important it is to include the above information (especially the ones in bold) in a problem report. Here is what I included in mine. If you are seeing the same issue, feel free to copy & paste into yours.

Error Message: None.

Repro: 100% Reproducible

  1. On an iPhone 2G w/ the latest IOS 3.X installed, launch the App Store and find an app to install,
  2. Tap the "[Free]" or "[<Price>]" install button in the top-right of the app screen.

Expected: You are (optionally) prompted to login and app begins to install.

Actual: Install button turns into a green, graphically corrupted "[N|STALL].." button, tapping on it again turns it into a smaller, blank, blue button "[ ]" with no text (see screenshots in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4056214?answerId=18770683022#18770683022).

Note1: This is a *server-side* issue and *NOT* an IOS issue as nothing has changed on the client-side (ie: IOS App Store app).

Note2: This is also a regression against the latest App Store update circa ~6/28/2012 (see previously mentioned thread) *AND* ~12/2011 (see thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3573774?start=15&tstart=0)

Thanks

Personally, I don't update any iPhone app from the App Store directly inside the iPhone; I use iTunes and I wait two or three weeks before downloading and installing the latest version (if even then). I read the reviews to see what, if any, problems the latest and greatest version has introduced.... Sometimes the warnings are so numerous, I just skip the update the will wait for the next.

My best suggestion is go to your Time Machine backups (assuming you have a backup program) and go way, way, way and back to your user folder > Music > iTunes > Mobile Applications and see if you can't find older versions of the Apple Store app. For example, I have version 110366 from 15 Feb 2012, and version 11975 from 24 March 2012.

Maybe by deleting the current Apple Store app on your iPhone and in iTunes, and then installing one of these older ones might solve your problem and give you access to the App Store again.

Just a suggestion....

Hi, Same here (from Japan).

Mine is iPhone 3G iOS3.1.3.

I cannot click download button at AppStore.

However when I go to recommendation tab, I could do that somehow.

Any other else doesn't work.

So my solution is to download application through mac or iPad (later than iOS4), then push it to iPhone with iOS3.1.3.

I don't see no problem with that.

Probably Apple no longer supports iOS3.1.3.

Thanks.

How do you plan to overwrite the "Appstore" native application in the iOS3.1.3 system? 😕

That is an operative system native application (As Safary, Notes, Calendar, etc...) (so, you CANNOT delete it unless you jailbreak your system and hacking it 😮; which is not allowed neither supported by Apple)

Could you explain us in more detail your idea, please? 😕

Jul 4, 2012 8:28 AM in response to torakaru

The idea is completely wrong and changing your App Store app won't work. The problem is on the server side, and no amount of tinkering of your client side/device will fix this.

There are several possible ways for this to develop:

1) Apple announces iOS 3.x is not supported any more, use iTunes.

2) Apple stays silent and does not fix this.

3) OR Apple fixes this after 5-6 days/a week/two weeks.
