Retina Macbook Pro WiFi and Bluetooth issue

Hey all,

i'd be really thankful for some info on the following issue :

i've got a Retina Macbook Pro and a Bluetooth Sound System from Logitech. The System connects to Macbook via Bluetooth which always works fine. Connecting to internet via WiFi works fine as well. The problem occurs when i use both WiFi and Bluetooth simultaneously : there seems to be some kind of interference, which makes my internet either go down completely or become very slow. This issue is not that nasty, but I'd expect a $2300 machine to work perfectly. So my question is : is this problem known for all of new Retina Macbooks or is it just my unit? In case it's just my unit, i'd still have a chance of exchanging it for a new one. But i'd like to know for sure where this problems comes from. I'd also be very thankful for every other solution you can think of.

Thanks in advance

I had the same Wifi-Drops every 10-15 minutes. I surfed on my MBP and a 2,4 Ghz Wifi Network. Today i went to my Apple Reseller and bought the Apple Airport Express. Now im running on a 5 Ghz Wifi and no Drops at anytime.

Hope i could help you. Sorry for my grammer 😉 Im from germany

That's not exactly a fix. Not everyone can run their routers on 5Ghz only. There's some older devices and even many new devices that run on b/g instead of n because the adapters are cheaper and there's no need for the faster speed in some cases. Simply put, there's going to be a need for 2.4Ghz for some time.

Also, the issue is with bluetooth dropping...The WiFi shouldn't be dropping. It should be killing the bluetooth. If you had WiFi issue, you could have another problem...

I've found that since the latest OS X update, it has become marginally more reliable... but still no where near suitable for business use.

I'm connecting my Retina MacBook Pro to a corporate clients wifi using Cisco infrastructure that's supporting 500+ Windows devices without issue, and a handful of Macs that are ALL having problems (not just rMBP but MBP and MBA laptops).

I have the issue where I can't use the Magic Mouse and connect to the secured WiFi so I've switched to using a Logitech wireless mouse and reciever. I still get dropouts on the WiFi that take almost a minute to reconnect. These dropouts can occur multiple times in an hour or only once or twice a day. It's erratic.

I'm now running native Windows 8 via Boot Camp on my rMBP and have been running for over 4 hours without a WiFi issue...

Personally, having spent approx £2.5k on a laptop for use on clients sites, it's an embarrasment to have to explain to my client why I'm rebooting my Mac into Windows just so I can reliably host a presentation.

the thing is, how many retina owners are aware of this issue?

a friend of mine has the same issue, but he was thinking iy was the router or something like that!! I could convince him just when he came to my home and tested it with my Airport Extreme ("ok man, no router in the world is going to be so friendly with your mac, SO?!")

Late to the party. But, I just bought a 15-in. retina last week. Didn't have a lick of trouble until the other day when I bought a Magic Mouse.

On startup it searches for a wifi network and says there have been changes. I have to go through the diagnostic, it makes some kind of change and then it picks up the network again. And, no further problems as long as I don't shut down completely.

But, at work, I can use a Sprint hotspot (OverDrive 4G) with the Magic Mouse, and there aren't any problems.

I'll be ******. I was floored to see my wife's new MBPr chunking away at pawltry speeds. I was absolutely certain I'd be making a call to the Genius Bar. I have tried a few basic things high and low over 3 days (I'm a sys tech so I've had quite the digging into this). I was also performing large uploads from my Windows server downstairs so I stalled the upload sync figuring it was that. My MBP is a '11 model and turned circles around the new MB.

So I renamed the folder. Rebooted and SOOO far, success. Definitely one for the tech notes. Thanks for this tip.

I have a retina macbook pro from 2012 with a logitech solar K760 keyboard. When I have bad wifi reception then I have the same bluetooth and wifi problem described here.

It's quite funny. The moment I turn off the bluetooth keyboard, internet is back, and vice versa. You could almost prank your colleagues with this...

This is strictly a Mac OSX problem since on Windows with bootcamp I use the K760 keyboard and Wifi without ANY issue (although the Apple Bluetooth driver has to be disabled, lol)

Too bad that this is even persistent on OSX Mavericks beta 4 so I don't think they will ever fix it.

I was experimenting a bit, but I noticed that when I run a ping to a server (such as Google DNS, 8.8.8.8, I do this in Apple Network Utility), I can use my bluetooth keyboard and use the internet simultaniously on my Macbook pro. Has anyone tested this already? Of course this is not a permanent solution... but it's better than turning my bluetooth keyboard on and off the whole time I want something to load...

Bluetooth + WIFI issue also happens on new Macbook Air (2013).

Since I got it (14 days ago) I've almost run crazy doing all kind of non-conclusive tests. As noted before by you, guys, it seems that it has something to do with a weird combination of router capabilities + the all-in-one AirPort card design or antenna placement + environment, when using the 2.4Ghz band.

My case, Lynksys WAG354G, 2.4Ghz, b/g.

Doesn't happen with old Sony Vaio. Doesn't happen with my 2010 iMac. DOES happen on a 2012 Macbook Air.

Happens sometimes at my office. Happens almost always at home. Right now, anecdotically, Bluetooth and WI-FI are playing nice together, but one hour ago they weren't, I just don't get it. This hassle is unnacceptable, I can't be always pending on when it works and when not...

[offtopic] I also lose WI-FI transfer rate when I have the Macbook resting on my lap in certain random positions. Bad antenna placement? Am I holding it wrong? [/offtopic]

As of now, a replacement is on its way, knowing it won't fix the issue, but it is worth the shot...

Funny thing is that my WI-FI + Bluetooth combo started working after I did try pinging google. I don't have it running on the background tho, I just ran 30 pings and stopped it. Coincidence? Maybe...Or is it because I plugged the charger in? I'll have to wait until it doesn't work again to try it again...

One more funny thing. Searching Bluetooth + WI-FI issues found ppl complaining about this very same thing happening on their Nexus 4 phones and Google not admitting it or not willing to fix it.
