Retina Macbook Pro WiFi and Bluetooth issue

Hey all,

i'd be really thankful for some info on the following issue :

i've got a Retina Macbook Pro and a Bluetooth Sound System from Logitech. The System connects to Macbook via Bluetooth which always works fine. Connecting to internet via WiFi works fine as well. The problem occurs when i use both WiFi and Bluetooth simultaneously : there seems to be some kind of interference, which makes my internet either go down completely or become very slow. This issue is not that nasty, but I'd expect a $2300 machine to work perfectly. So my question is : is this problem known for all of new Retina Macbooks or is it just my unit? In case it's just my unit, i'd still have a chance of exchanging it for a new one. But i'd like to know for sure where this problems comes from. I'd also be very thankful for every other solution you can think of.

Thanks in advance

I've been struggling with this issue on my 2013 Retina MBP for MONTHS and finally a senior Applecare tech figured it out:

This summarizes my problem:

With bluetooth enabled, my wifi was VERY slow to connect (sometimes not at all), and my Internet speeds were as much as 60% slower.

This was the solution:

  • Delete the following file: Library > Preferences > com.apple.bluetooth.plist
  • Restart your mac

This seems to have fixed all my issues with wifi.

krondek: i was trying this solution but does not work for me, still the same with any changes. With Bluetooth turned on does not work my wifi connection.

So today I'm going to buy a keyboard with cable to use my external monitor connected to thunderbolt, because my bluetooth one is just killing my internet.

Does work for anybody deleting of com.apple.bluetooth.plist?

kozovitch:

Deleting of com.apple.bluetooth.plist worked perfectly for me....for about a week. None of this makes any sense. I'm a developer and a relatively computer savvy person. I tested all of this in several control environments and the problem was fixed the first time I deleted com.apple.bluetooth.plist.

However, now it seems to make no difference. If my Bluetooth is enabled, it takes about 25-60 seconds to connect to any wifi connection (2.4Ghz, 5Ghz, channels etc makes no difference) and in many instances it won't connect at all. The way to get around it is to disconnect bluetooth and then disconnect and reconnect wifi. This is so frustrating and stupid.

I have this issue too.

Sometimes it works fine and then it will strike and my Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse will just stop working.

Turning off WiFi will solve the problem although I obviously won't be able to browse the internet via a WiFi connection. Similarly, turning off Bluetooth will allow me to use WiFi without problems.

😟 Really unhappy about this.

wow, just discovered this thread. I have a macbook retina 2012 and having slow wifi when bluetooth is on. I was trying to use handoff feature for yosemite but wifi was so slow with bluetooth on. So there's still no fix for this ? Its just a hardware issue ? How can apple expect anyone to use handoff when they get slow wifi with bluetooth turned on..

Hi guys,

I'm not hoping for a fix anymore. Nearly two years later I think it's a hardware related issue and Apple will remain silent about that. 😢

(Although the problems didn't occur when using Windows on this machine.)

But maybe when some people now use Bluetooth more frequently due to Handoff this discussion gets some more attention.
