Works fine for me as well. Never had any issue regarding the buffer not clearing it's previous contents. It's a bit tricky when first learning how it works but after that, it's a great implementation that serves it's purpose.
" I was two breathes from smashing it into bits on the hood of my beautiful Mercedes. That's what I'd did to my third gen iPod that cost 500 dollars when it wouldn't work like it should."
How much did it cost to repair the Merc?
'Electric toothbrushes work like they should'
Mine doesn't! And I just cut and pasted the quote.
Where does that leave your logic - or your ulcer?
Thank you James for your comments. I in fact do have a problem with it, as Jodie has, so please do not tell me I am INCORRECT. Just because you have yet to experience the same problem does not mean we are not experiencing it. As I clearly stated, it was working fine up until about two weeks ago. I am attempting to cut and paste from the same ibook that I previously had successfully cut and pasted many times before. Now, I highlight the phrase, as before, but when I 'paste' it gives me a phrase that is from say two weeks ago. It pastes it correctly, but it's not the new phrase (if that makes sense). So, the cut and paste 'works' if you want to be pedanic about it - it's just not pasting new 'cuts'. It is like the old phrase is 'stuck' there.
I have followed the other suggestions on this site and others. A reboot doesn't work. There appears to be no other problems with the ipad. Just this.
I never stated you don't have a problem. You do realize, a that within the context of this thread, you and the OP are alone, right? So your statement that I was addressing was in fact incorrect.
You mention a specific iBook that presents this issue. Have you tried copy and paste from another source such as a text document, another book, a website?
Something to try, in this order:
I've been googling this issue for a while and it's not limited to the one or two posters on this board. However, there is a lot of confusion as to what the issue is. Here's what's happening for me:
I select text on a web page. I'm certain it's text, not an image, because I can move the selection handles to highlight more or less of the text. It's not a selection issue. I have no trouble manipulating the selection. When I'm finished selecting I get the Copy button, which I press.
I switch to a different app, say Mail, and tap-and-hold until I get the Paste option. I press it, and instead of seeing my newly copied text I see whatever text was in the clipboard from the last successful copy.
Interestingly, I tried copying some of this text as I type and it copies fine. Going to a different web page, http://www.wesscoblinds.com/, nothing I copy ends up on the clipboard. (I was able to copy and paste the URL). So clearly it's not a memory issue or a buffer problem. It's likely to do with the way iOS handles HTML when copying. I'm going to play around with my big machine and see if I can look at source and see what the issue might be. I suppose I should file a bug report as well.

Wow. I just jumped in and this seems to be the official "Whiners' Thread!"
Yeah, ya' got that right. Or the "I am the center of the universe" thread. Take your pick.
I found this discussion as I too, who have copied and pasted many times on my ipad without any problem, is nowhaving the same problem it is pasteing the last item i copied and I was trying to find out how to get out of that mode ...when i found this very lively discussion. So the person who originally asked about this most likely is experiencing the same problem as myself and several others. I will now attempt some of the suggestions that have been offered to see if it corrects it...here's hoping. But I will NOT smash my ipad on my BMW if it doesn't work 🙂 I guess only Mercedes owners do that...ugh
I've been having trouble with copy/paste. It seems to only work on certain things, like pictures, and sometimes on text. Although I think you're over reacting a tad, I understand where you're coming from 100%.
After my post from yesterday i was able to get it working when i cut and pasted a photo but today I was in the middle of a long e mail and had cut and pasted another larger section of text onto it when all of a sudden everything on my email disappeared?? I checked drafts hoping it was there, but it wasn't so I lost all the work,I had just done in the last 30'minutes...very upsetting! I am hoping that this is not due to the IOS6 download I finally got installed after about
3 days of trying to update it.
I have the same problem often however it's on the latest Safari on a computer. My solution is to turn Safari off for several seconds. If I don't do it long enough I still can't hilight/copy/paste/. It's like Safari gets constipated and I have to give it an enema. And it hasn't been that long since I turned off the whole computer.
I agree -- Apple has gone down hill this last year since trying to make their products work both on a computer and ipad, etc.
I started seeing this error, too. (I don't know if it was working properly before, I didn't do much copy-pasting on the iPad before.) Anyway, I noticed that if I use a text entry box (with the on-screen keyboard displayed) I can copy and paste the parts of the text I type in there. But if I go to Safari or Diigo and highlight a text on a web page, it offers the Copy command, but after using it the content of the clipboard remains the same, the text from the web page is not being copied! Tried to copy a text from within a text entry box and still worked as it should.
So I thought the copy is only working properly if the on-screen keuboard is displayed. However, tried it again with a text file displayed in the my Dropbox folder: it did not let me edit the text, but I was able to copy text out of it. So it seems that the presence of the on-screen keyboard is not necessary for the Copy to work.
Somehow it seems the success of the copy depends on the type of the source text underneath: if it's a simple text contents, it works, but if it's a web page (even if only text is highlighted), it does not work.
Someone at Apple needs to do some real troubleshooting and fix it!
Upon further investigation: the Copy command works for text on some of the web pages and does not work for others. Here is an example of the page where Copy does NOT work:
http://www.winability.com/folderguard/users-guide.htm?page=users-guide_faq.htm
Try to copy some text from the right-hand window, then paste it somewhere, it does NOT work for me.
Or try using maps.google.com to get some directions. It does not even let me select a text to copy! Even if it's a plain text at the bottom, like copyright or 'view in mobile'.
Copying text in the right panel of the site you provided worked for me. Here's some copied text:
Can I use the same license key to install Folder Guard on several computers?
Copying directions from maps.google.com also works:
1. Head northeast on Evergreen Ln toward Carol Ln
0.1 mi
2. Turn left onto Bucher Ave
0.4 mi
3. Turn right onto Carlson St
Destination will be on the right
What model iPad are you using? What level of iOS?
Your bug may be hard to reproduce if it depends on the context of all that you have been doing previously.
