Major UI Lag in Logic Pro 9.1.7 on OS 10.8?

Hi,

I've just completed my first session in Logic 9.1.7 on a Mac Pro Quad Xeon 2.6 after upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8. I got through it, but experienced the following new bug (as compared to running in Lion 10.7.4:

I noticed that if Logic is currently playing when I double click on a plugin in the channel strip, and then try to stop the playback (keyboard or by clicking the transport in the arrange window), I will get from a 5-45 second lag before the app responds and actually stops. No mouse or keyboard commands seem to work while it's hanging up.

Workaround: Only open plugin windows when playback is stopped, and then playing and stopping works fine (although maybe a little more laggy than in the former OS still).

Is anyone else experiencing this or have any better workaround ideas?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7), Quad 2.66GHz, 16GB, 18TB HD / RAID

I agree. And to be honest, I think all that's necessary while we are waiting for this fix is to just close any window that might have visual analysis. I have been working on a track with at least 70 tracks and the lag only occurs if I have a couple instances of Channel EQ open with Analyzer engaged, or if I tax the computer with another hefty app. For sure this is a problem that will have to be fixed by Apple properly, not by some band-aid solution. I've been led to believe it's coming soon.

Seems like downgrading to 9.1.5 is a best fix guys ! Reinstalled my logic pro 9.0, upgraded it to 9.1.5 and it fixes clicks and play/stop latency with many EQ analyzers on HIGH ! Its really better even in Snow Leopard, hope this will help u guys with Lion and ML.

Btw - downgrading to 9.1.5 will not mess up your user channel strips, plugins, or other settings and it will open 9.1.6 and 9.1.7 project just fine !

a friend demo his iMac (very old 2009 type) running Logic Pro 9.1.7 on Mountain Lion.

No lag even he open a lot of Apple EQ with Analyzer turned on.

So I happened to open the hard case of Macbook Pro.

First, I replace the built-in Seagate 7200 rpm HD to a WD 7200 HD.

It helped a bit, but no big improvement.

Then I found my 2x4GB 1066 DDR3 RAM are from Samsung and Hyrx. Surprisingly, my dealer installed these cheap memory (one is Samsung and One is Hyrx).

I then replace these 4G RAM with two new Kingston 4G RAM. My MBP now runs Logic Pro 9.1.7 on a Mountain Lion like a high speed train smoothly.

Sould this LAG issue be a debug focus, it could relate to the memorey address problem.

Since these 2x4G Kingston DDR3 1066 cost only 45 USD, I think it is all worth it just to try.

Just a little upsee-date-ily about the lag situation with Logic Pro.

Yesterday I had a (very very frustrating) conversation with somebody in the highest level of tech support for Logic. Unfortunately he had never heard of this issue.

He explained that Apple has a hierarchy for bug fixes. They prioritize the ones that effect the most users. He then asked me to reinstall my entire computer again to prove to him that this is an Apple issue.

Of course I responded that I'd already done the tests to prove that it was Apple-related. He stated that that's really all they could tell me. I was pretty flustered but agreed to do what he asked.

Half an hour later I got an email from him and I'll copy/paste it here:

"I spoke with our site engineer and he stated what you already know. Apple is aware of the issue.
There is no resolution at this time. Please do not perform the troubleshooting steps we discussed.
The issue appears to be graphics related. Any GUI that has animation and/or motion. The workaround
is to not use the analyzer. I know this is not what you want to hear.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out."

Considering what he told me about the hierarchical nature of bug fixes, I wrote back the following:

"Basically, I really just want to know that this bug is high in the "hierarchy" of bugs that you mentioned, and that a fix is in the works. Can you please confirm?"

His response:

"I can confirm Apple is investigating the issue.
Thanks"

Right. Thanks alot. Is this kind of evasive attitude called for? Apple are treating their professional users like enemy spies and I for one do not appreciate it.
