Major UI Lag in Logic Pro 9.1.7 on OS 10.8?

Hi,

I've just completed my first session in Logic 9.1.7 on a Mac Pro Quad Xeon 2.6 after upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8. I got through it, but experienced the following new bug (as compared to running in Lion 10.7.4:

I noticed that if Logic is currently playing when I double click on a plugin in the channel strip, and then try to stop the playback (keyboard or by clicking the transport in the arrange window), I will get from a 5-45 second lag before the app responds and actually stops. No mouse or keyboard commands seem to work while it's hanging up.

Workaround: Only open plugin windows when playback is stopped, and then playing and stopping works fine (although maybe a little more laggy than in the former OS still).

Is anyone else experiencing this or have any better workaround ideas?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7), Quad 2.66GHz, 16GB, 18TB HD / RAID

Yep , plus im gonna try to avoid all great 3rd party software instruments, good quality audio files, and fact that im stuck with MBP 2011 + Snow Leopard for next year now till 9.1.9 ) But there will be new OS ver. that will increase the lag anyway )))))

Using only logic stuff is impossible simply because it s u c k s now. It was great back in 2004 when logic 7 kicked in, but now most of the plugins and software instr. are useless.

Ableton is the undisputed king at this point. They support multiple platforms, Hardware, OS's, and is reliable to use in a live setting = amazing. Logic however is owned by Apple. They only have a handful of computer hardware platforms to test with and a few different OS's and still cant get a hot fix out within 3 months. Is it Ego? Laziness? Lack of talent? All three? I never saw this coming. Very embarrassing for a company so highly regarded. Please clean up your act guys! I want to see Logic succeed.

By end of 2012 when you look back at who pulled ahead I think Ableton really paid attention to its users and stabilized its product over the last few years.

Its not Logic but Ableton has been a joy to use and im thankful I own it. With every project I get more hooked on it.

Yes it works now!! God Bless! Just opened the most jacked up project that would crash logic every single time and all is good now. Also i noticed that Retina Display looks much better with Logic. All the text looks crisp, mixer, Midi etc. Aside for some blurry icons, looks better overall.

I will never update again. Lesson learned and thanks for the people at logic for finally bailing me out on this.

Yep spoke too soon. Got quality time in this weekend and freezing is back! Arg!!! Totally F'ed again.

I noticed it when I use LFOTool and right after i installed my elicenser for my Vengence Products. I will try and uninstall them but I had this problem with 9.1.7 without those products and it was still the same freezing problem so not holding my breath on that.

**** 😟

Well, I was going to do some testing in a complex session, but I didn't need to. Unfortunately, the lag, while shorter, is still there in even a basic 4-track podcast editing session using only channel EQ (w/ analyzer on) and a Waves Z-Noise plug-in (but turned off, no less). If this simple setup can crate unusable lag, then I'm sure many of you working on complex music projects are stil getting hammered. UGH!

Tick tock Apple - we're still waiting for a fix... please!

It's time to call Apple Support again and get them on the ball. In the meantime, I'm looking for a replacement rig. 😟

9.1.7 came out before MountainLion, and it seems that Apple has fixed the problem with Logic's own plugins (those which provide frequent graphic feedback") and Mountain Lion.

If you don't get the lag problem in 9.1.8 with Logic's own plugins, you probably need to get a new version of LFOTool – if LFOTool is a plugin that "provides frequent graphic feedback", that is.
