Mountain Lion Parental Control time limits are not "turning off" the computer when my kids time is up

I use the Parental Controls to limit how much time my kids spend on the computer. Since I installed Mountain Lion their account is not "turning off" when the time limit is reached. They are being allowed to stay on, it appears to be indefinitely. When the log out and try to log back in it indicates that because of Parental Controls they cannot until the next day. This worked perfectly with Lion. Am I missing a setting or something?

Same problem - my daughter spent a very long time on the iMac the other day but I assumed parental controls was still working - as it has always in the past. Strangley neither of my children can log out now, you have to use fast user switching and choose another account, then it logs them out.

I also wish I had not upgraded - there are a lot of problems with Mountain Lion - I had no problems at all with Lion.

Just echoing the same frustrations already expressed by many people on this post. The time limits and YouTube problems plaguing Parental Controls in ML are simply unacceptable, and I hope that Apple is paying attention to these posts or a lot of kids will be going to college with Windows PCs in a couple of years as frustrated parents like myself decide to switch back.

I'm having the same trouble. The time limit in conjunction with bedtime limits doesn't work. I'll have to try shutting off the bed time limit and just go with the general time and see if that works. It never did log my kids out when the time expired, but when they did log out, they weren't able to log back in. So it's still tracking the time, just not enforcing it from within their account.

Really weird, Apple. And pretty lame. Hope you get this fixed soon.

I see the same problem, and can work around it by only enabling one or the other (time limits OR bed time but not both). However, I think I'm seeing another problem and wondering if anyone else is:

My kids get notification that their time is up, and it even logs them out. But they seem to be able to immediately log back in (albeit, only for a few minutes at a time). The OS seems to permit this a few times before it finally decides that the account is finished until the next day.

Anyone else seeing this? My wife was sold on the Windows --> Mac conversion once she saw parental controls ... now we can't let the computer do our parenting for us!!! 😉

I think this is fixed in 10.8.2.

I updated the childrens' computer from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2, set bedtimes in addition to the existing time limits, and logged one of them in. In the menu bar, the time remaining showed the time left until the allotment is used up instead of the time until bedtime. (This is the correct behavior, and it wasn't correct under 10.8.1) I came back after the allowed time, and the user was logged out as he should be.

Agreed. I'm seeing the same thing.

My daughter's account was logged out properly when her time was up and can't log back in. My son's account can't currently log in due to the time of day restrictions. Both have time of day and limits set.

I'm going to keep an eye on this over the next couple days. My wife has been upset that they can log in before school in the morning. I had only enabled the length of session limit as a work around.
