I think for now you have to use some other software. If you have wifi, AirDroid is free and does a lot more (also reads and sends SMS messages from the Mac).

- Just search and install AirDroid from Google Play store on the mobile and click start.

- Open a browser on the Mac and go to the address specified on the phone screen (you can bookmark it in the browser).

- Click the small camera icon inside the app (on the phone) and point the phone camera at the Mac screen.

The camera recognizes and reads the large dotty icon, and automatically connects the two.

It is very quick and handy. You will see messages, videos, pictures.. all the contents of the phone (even the clipboard if you want to do copy-paste between Mac and phone).

If you are an advanced user you can also setup Fluid (http://fluidapp.com/ free for Mac Os) to create a web App for the mac that opens AidDroid. Just tell Fluid to open any link inside its panels in the preferences, type the AirDroid address in the "URL" field and you can even add an icon (you can download it from the Play Store web page of AirDroid, just drag the icon to the desktop and choose it in Fluid preferences).

Oh, and you can also setup the Mac to open the newly created Fluid app for AirDroid every time the phone is connected. You can do it inside Apple's Image Capture application. In the bottom left corner of the window (when device is connected) there is a small "triangle in a box" icon tht shows/hides opening preferences for your device. You can choose any app there. Just select "Other.." in the menu and browse to find the application you wish.

I found out that MTP file system is not supported by Apple yet.

i have the S3 which i connected to 10.6 , 10.7 and 10.8. It didnt work with Android file transfer or double twist.

So i rooted the phone and installed custom ROM and it started to work. Again i restored to original ROM and it dosnt work.

So the issue is with 4.0.4 OS. they introduced MTP file system so the phone function is fully functional when you are sysncing...

Hi everyone

Just wanted to share my experience how I got it working.

I was ripping my hair out and dreading installing windows just so I can copy some files to my note 2 (jelly bean)

Im running mac os x 10.5.8 leopard

I had kies installed and android file transfer both installed, at first i trued moving kies to trash which didn't really help. Ripped some more hair out and then someone earlier mentioned you have to run the kies installation and uninstall through that. Just did that and now Android file transfer and mac is working happily! (fingers crossed)

I've run into the same thing. The issue appears it might be with Google.

I'm running Nexus 7 tablet with Android 4.4.2 and the latest update of OS X Mavericks.

Android File Transfer says there's no device present.

I make a change on the tablet (enabling USB debugging, which requires developer mode to be turned on) and if I use Google's ADB command from Android Software Developer's Kit (SDK), then I'm able to connect just fine to the tablet. Android File Transfer still does not work.

If one piece of Google provided software works and another does not through the same connection, then I'm inclined to believe that Google needs to fix this.

No changes were made on the mac to do this.

Just my 2 cents.

I did try pairing with my laptop through bluetooth and the tablet said it couldn't accept file transfers.

Thanks a lot for Easy Phone Sync ! I forgot about that one, and I was getting desperate at trying to put my music in my S3... No solution really worked for me, including the $5 airsync....

For AFT, TRashMe says that you've got to delete the follofwing files:

- /Applications/Android File Transfer.app

- /Users/{your_user}/Library/Preferences/com.google.android.mptviewer.plist

- /Users/{your_user}/Library/Application Support/Google/Android File Tranfer

I can confirm problem is ONLY with Mountain Lion: my mac can boot both Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion on same hardware and Android File Transfer app has no problem under Snow Leopard.

In Mountain Lion the USB device is detected by the system. In system information, under USB:

(in Italian, sorry)

SAMSUNG_Android:

  ID prodotto: 0x6866

ID fornitore: 0x04e8 (Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.)

  Versione: 2.26

  Numero di serie: XXXXXXXXXXX

  Velocità: Fino a 480 Mb/sec

  Produttore: SAMSUNG

  ID posizione: 0x24100000 / 2

  Corrente disponibile (mA): 500

  Corrente necessaria (mA): 96

Apple's Image Capture app sees the hardware when connected and I also used Image Capture preference (in the lower left corner of the window) to have Android File Transfer to pop up when device is connected even if the Android File Transfer Agent does not see it ( /Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Application Support/Google/Android File Transfer/Android File Transfer Agent.app ).

Nevertheless Android File Transfer keeps telling me no device is connected.

My Mac is a MacBookPro5,2 17" early 2009 (2,66 GHz).

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy SIII - International (GT-i9300).

(although the problem seems to be device indipendent)

Actually, turns out that doesn't work very well, at least with the galaxy S3.

Sending from the Mac using Bluetooth File Exchange mostly works (although the Mac seems to forget the pairing info semi-regularly).

However, sending from the S3 via Bluetooth, at least from the Gallery app, fails even though the target Mac is discovered & recognized as paired. The MyFiles file browser oddly doesn't have any "send" option, and the 3d-party Bluetooth File Transfer app fails as well, although takes much longer to do so (apparently the S3 doesn't natively support the Bluetooth OBEX Profile, which is bizarre, although for that matter, neither does the iPhone).

I haven't put a lot of effort in a solution, since WiFi is faster anyway, however, BT is in principle the best method for occasional one-shot file transfer from/to feature phones, esp. contacts or photos,
