I think for now you have to use some other software. If you have wifi, AirDroid is free and does a lot more (also reads and sends SMS messages from the Mac).
- Just search and install AirDroid from Google Play store on the mobile and click start.
- Open a browser on the Mac and go to the address specified on the phone screen (you can bookmark it in the browser).
- Click the small camera icon inside the app (on the phone) and point the phone camera at the Mac screen.
The camera recognizes and reads the large dotty icon, and automatically connects the two.
It is very quick and handy. You will see messages, videos, pictures.. all the contents of the phone (even the clipboard if you want to do copy-paste between Mac and phone).
If you are an advanced user you can also setup Fluid (http://fluidapp.com/ free for Mac Os) to create a web App for the mac that opens AidDroid. Just tell Fluid to open any link inside its panels in the preferences, type the AirDroid address in the "URL" field and you can even add an icon (you can download it from the Play Store web page of AirDroid, just drag the icon to the desktop and choose it in Fluid preferences).
Oh, and you can also setup the Mac to open the newly created Fluid app for AirDroid every time the phone is connected. You can do it inside Apple's Image Capture application. In the bottom left corner of the window (when device is connected) there is a small "triangle in a box" icon tht shows/hides opening preferences for your device. You can choose any app there. Just select "Other.." in the menu and browse to find the application you wish.
I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Android File Transfer runs a process in the background at all times, even when it's not open. Just a heads up. I don't know about you guys, but once I found that out, I removed it immediately.
Fair enough.
Android+AFT was definitely the problem in my case (and probably others) and Mavericks was definitely the problem in your case and many others.
Sorry it's not so easy in your case.
Well, I was hoping that others could enjoy the same magic I had. I was debugging an Android app and upgraded to Android 4.4.4 while connected. As soon as the tablet rebooted, AFT appeared (it's never done that before).
thx ! Airdroid is good and works well, but maybe the file transfer is slower per wifi than per usb câble ?
Seems like it paid solution and only for Windows. ⚠
As for photos/texts/URLs transfer from your phone - best free solution is definetely http://drop2pc.com
It is the app provided by Google.
It is called android file transfer.
Worked well until I updated to mountain lion, now it doesn't detect the device or when it does can not access the sd card.
I suppose it's possible that there are Android devices that require it but I've never heard of or used one. See how it goes. Let me know if you have a problem and I'll try to help. We just won't tell anyone over in the iPhone forum. 😉
Best of luck.
According to the phandroid forums, some people are having trouble on windows also.
Samsung mtp drivers failing, device won't mount, etc.
Some are claiming faulty usb port on device, bad cables, etc.
I am having the same issue. I attempted to use Android File Transfer to get music onto my Samsung Galaxy S III, but after installing the app I plugged my phone in via USB like it said in the instructions, and my Macbook Pro with OS X mountain lion will not recognize the phone.
I did exactly as you described. I have my phone plugged in, debugging on, and in PTP mode, but the transfer file app does not recognize my phone. It says "No android device connected, please connect a device via USB to get started."
totally untrue.
I can acces external card just fine on my acer tablet.
Android file transfer app is the mtp/ptp file transfer drivers which has to be used since android abandoned usb mass storage in android going forward.
I have a worse problem. Galaxy Nexus, android 4.0.4, macbook running 10.6. Android File transfer has worked fine for 2 months. Now, whenever I connect phone to macbook (using original cable) the keyboard freezes and I must reboot. Rebooting the phone fixes it for one time, then recurs.
now the update to Kies took away the option to view the contents of the sd card, if the glaxay s3 works with AFT on other versions of OSX cant it be updated to work with OSX 10.8? or did apple make AFT not work in 10.8?
Guys im really having trouble with my galaxy sIII connecting to my mac. We have downloaded the file transfer for android. Does as it says, plug my phone in, connect in camera mode and the mac is saying please connect usb cable. ????
Same issues here with my MBP.
I just got my Samgung Galaxy Note II and it will not mount. I'm on Lion.
Kies recognizes the phone, but I don't want that mess on my computer and nor do I want to use it. I'd like to use Doubletwist as it acesses the file network itunes creates, and should make the transition smooth and simple.
Coming from the seamless ease of my iPhone 4, my transition into Android has been nothing but headaches. I'm considering just getting a iPhone 5.
