Hi everyone,

Yes the info in the article is old and that's the way it used to be. Ever since 4S came out push notification has been working fine. As I mention before, it has worked perfect for the longest. This issue just started a few days ago.
From the article: "This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple."
Also, look at the screen shots. That's pre-iOS 5. A clue that it's old information is also that it mentions MobileMe but makes no mention of iCloud.
This is starting to get so fustrating. restarted my phone this mornig and as usual live mail notifications worked for a few hours and not stopping. i have to keep manually checking. What is the point of even having an iPhone if there is a chance of missing an email or getting ti too late. I have removed email account and rebooted and then added it again. still does not help. today i even did a hard reset and the same thing is happening. Not getting my email unless i manually check. this is so ridiculous already! My mail has worked on my phone for the longest. i changed nothing and a few days ago, no push notifications! Anyone solve this yet?

What causes you to state that the only way to get push with Hotmail is to use Exchange?
Sorry about that, apparently I was relying on old information. As of iOS 5 the Hotmail template was added to Mail settings with the ability to support push, sorry for doubting you on that (I guess I should stick to things I have direct experience with and not parrot what I read in these and other forums).
Looking at other sites, iOS is not the only place where Hotmail push has been a problem, historically it seems to have periodic issues on the Android platform too. Whose fault it is doesn't matter at this point since, even if it is Apple's issue you're not going to get it resolved here since this is just a user-to-user forum. But just for kicks have you tried re-creating your Hotmail account using the Exchange template? (as was required in iOS 4)
I am almost starting to be sorry i went iPhone from android now. I got email push notifications all day yesterday without making any other changes and today i am getting none. I changed nothing, Now I have to keep opening my mailbox to get my email.

I am having the same problem. I wonder if this has anything to do with it...
I was wondering that Allse. My phone is being really intermittent with the problem now, sometimes it is pushing, sometimes it is fetching on its own and other times I am having to do it manually....
I am having the same exact problem. I also read the article about the new outlook.com and it sayd it supposed to actually work better on smartphones and tablets. This is really starting to driver me crazy and they are doing nothing to resolve this. So far today not 1 email pushed through I had to maually get it.Microsoft or Apple needs to do something. So many people are having this problem.
I hadn't heard about the rollout of outlook.com. It makes sense now why problems would arise out of the blue. Microsoft is no doubt making changes on the server end because of this rollout.
I went ahead and signed in at outlook.com so that my account is switched to the new web interface. I'll see if that helps anything. Afterwards, I went ahead and deleted the Hotmail account on my iPhone which I had configured earlier today to use Exchange. Then, I set it up again using the default Hotmail choice in iOS 5.
I did all of that to. Some days I get push and some days I have to keep checking my mail folder. I have been getting my important mail late because of this. Has to be related to the new web format and server changes. What gets me is with all these posts nothing has been done yet!
Until it all gets resolved, I'd totally keep checking my email "manually" so you don't keep getting important mail late.... I mean... Just a thought. But if you know it's going on and you don't wanna miss any emails... check it.
Push has been working for me ever since taking these steps:
1. Sign in at Outlook.com. (This upgrades your account to the new system.)
2. Delete account configuration in iOS.
3. Set up account in iOS using Hotmail option.
I came to this forum searching for a solution to this same issue... my Hotmail stopped pushing all of a sudden. On another forum someone suggested turning off my iPhone, turning it back on and then closing the mail application. For some reason, that worked and mail started pushing again. (Not sure if order makes a difference - close application and turn off or turn off and close application) Certainly an easy fix if it was not just a coincidence that it started working again.
That reminds me, at some point I tried that, too. I killed Mail. But I think I did that after push was working again. I killed the app because my Trash and one other folder was displaying above the Inbox on my iPhone. That didn't fix the folder display problem. My hunch is that Micro$oft fixed something on the server end.
I did a hard reboot (holding down home and top button until the phone restarts) and it worked for me.
I did update my hotmail to outlook and the push was working fine. I only started noticing this yesterday. So I don't believe it's an updating to outlook.com issue... at least in my case...
Mine had been working for a while ever since updating my account to Outlook.com. However, push stopped working a few days ago for me, as well. I deleted the account from my iPhone and re-added it, plus I updated to iOS 6. It's been working since then. Not sure if it was the iOS 6 update or if it was re-adding the account.
