Panic. All my email has disappeared from iCloud. I did not delete it, and now it's working again, but only from today. What happened to my old emails?

Sorry for the long header, but this is my first question.

Today, for no apparent reason, my iCloud inbox/sent items/junk/trash everything has disappeared from all my devices. I checked iCloud, and there's nothing up there either. I did not delete all my email, either intentionally or by accident.

Meanwhile, iCloud is now working again, but all the old mails are gone, I'm hoping not forever.

How do I recover all this missing material, which is essential both to my business and personally?

thanks

npascual,

you must of connected to the famous customer service type,,,,who just gets rid of you. Obviously , she did not report the problem,,,because hours later,,,when I called.... they said they did not know about this. Had received No phone calls (their stated primary method of monitoring issues). I called the IPhone number. Good folks there,,,but, still clueless.

I have received no further communications from the Apple trouble shooting mode folks. I have some back up ,,,but, was relying on the ICloud back up more. Now being told that it may not really be a back up,,,!

Good Luck..

Seriously, this whole mobile me to ICloud change over , IMHO,,, has been poorly launched and managed.

bit of an update - managed to get through to support here in the UK - They were not aware untill I called that there was a problem - two helpfull support people went through the process to try and recover my entire inbox and a load of other mailboxes that have vanished. No success!!! I have another .mac account that is fine - They have issued a temporary password and I will get a call back tommorow. Bit of a home goal this one apple!!!! If CGI companies are thinking of having render farms in 'the cloud' , maybe think again - It looks like a few of us have lost emails that go back years - imagaine losing millions of dollars of complex Hi Def images !! What are we suppose to do now - go find emails on our time machines !!!!!! A response from Apple would be a good idea.

Does anyone else agree - Mobile me was not broken but this is....

I want my mail back :-(

Jul 31, 2012 10:29 AM in response to BrianGrand

Join the club - They lost all my past emails as well. The email was totally empty this as on this AM. The support person said he could not restore it but that he will talk with some system engineers and see if they can do something. I'm not holding my breath.....

This is totally unacceptable and Apple should respond with an explanation in public. How can anyone have faith in their icloud system. As former employee of CBS - I am going to distribute this information to all news organizations today!

I too just got off the phone with a helpful support person. My iCloud account still only shows today's email, but I was able to restore prior data from Time Machine. First we tried to include it in the "regular" inbox. That did not work all the data disappeared again once it synced with iCloud. So I just imported the data to have available to me on my main machine. This is not a good solution since I really need access to my prior email on my other iCloud devices.

I now am in troubleshooting mode with a new temperary password to allow Apple to work on the issue. I hope to get a call back later tonight, Eastern US, but he said it would most likely take a day or two to resolve the issue.

Like others my support person had not heard of the issue. I allowed him access to my desktop and I showed him this thread. A few minutes later he said he was starting to see other support personnel discuss this topic in their internal chat. So let's hope this is the high priority they have stated and that this issue is resolved soon.

I was on the phone earlier with a support supervisor, who told me she was trying to restore my inbox and sent mails, but that it might take a few days if it worked at all. She told me that Time Machine could supply the backup if that did not work.

So how come Apple doesn't have a Time Machine for what they are charging us for?

There was no point in slagging the tech, but what are they thinking?

Jul 31, 2012 12:10 PM in response to BrianGrand

Yep, exactly the same thing happened to me at lunch time today. All my emails gone from iPhone and Macbook Air. New ones coming in but no trace of the old stuff, not even via ICloud website.

Words cannot express how angry, stunned and disappointed I am with Apple right now. Apart from "angry", "stunned" and "disappointed", that is. This has undermined my confidence in Apple and I'm now looking to switch to a more reliable email account: google searches have now revealed to me this is not a new problem.

Apple, please get this fixed once and for all.

I wish I could say " Good Afternoon",

Has anyone,,,on this site,,or others,,,,, heard anything from Apple,,,except you've been assigned a case number , you are in "troubleshooting mode", and , we will get back to you?????

I have received nothing, nada, zip. Not even a confirmation of the issue or, guesstamate of time to repair.

Some have suggested that their inputs was...." ,,,, this may take a day or two....". Fine. I would just like to see an official Apple confirmation of the issue,,,and, the steps being put forth to fix it !! And, for you Apple apologists out there,,,, wasn't the ICloud backup feature suppose to be Backup,,,,,or, why should we have to call (or, try to call) Apple when they could send out an alert to ICloud/mobile me customers.......or, why are not the customer service folks up to speed on the issue (especially after 10-18 hours after the initiation of their new delete customer email program),,,or,,, do you , the Apple worshippers,,,,really believe the this ICloud is more reliable than other email options?????

As with other folks on this thread, when at work (fortune 100 company),,,when asked about Apple,,,,I will hesitate,,,,,,and , at least listen to other options.

Again, sorry for the rant... I do not even want to think about the coming efforts I have to go though ,if they cannot fix this.

regards,

jack

Same story here. Called apple support, who claimed i am the only one who had this issue. They also gave me a temp password and am supposed to talk to them on thursday. they said they only kept backups for a couple of days, so the longer this goes on, the less likely they will be able to restore the old emails.

i, for one, will no longer keep any emails in the cloud. what a painful lesson -- years of emails, gone in an instant.

I am in the same boat....Many very important financial docs. When I got home I unplugged my home wifi and opened my MBPR and all my email folders are there.....As soon as I turned on my Ipad with 4g they disapeared....

Now I am accessing my old folders on a laptop that I cannot turn wifi on as the icloud will delete all of my files if wifi is on......

Cmon apple this has cost me a day of business and I need my icloud email folders..

Talked to a level 3 tech...Super nice but he is waiting for engineering to reply

What is going on with Mac mail and icloud ?????????.....I am about to switch everything out of here

Can we get a reply apple????? And are we going to get our old emails and folders back ? HELP PLEASE

Are we a SMALL number ? Why has one of my mac accounts been affected and not the other - does iCloud really work ? Like many others this is not a nice lesson learnt and I will look for other ways to do what apple mail cannot do. Ie: Dropbox

Please post something lets see how small a number we are !

Make a noise this is not acceptable

Jul 31, 2012 3:27 PM in response to Roger Wilmut1

Horray, bully for Apple ! With all due respect Roger this is crap ! How can we trust Cloud computing if we lose an entire collection of data in a blink of an eye. I have a local backup up till July 25th but that is not the point of this... Many hours have passed and when I contacted support they had no idea this had been happening. What kind of organisation makes its loyal clients move over to a system that does not work and not even know that the wonderful iCloud is malfunctioning. I want to know why one of my accounts old mail has vanished and the other has not ! Something is not right here. A multi national the scale of Apple should pull out all the stops to get this sorted ASAP and let our 'small' group of affected users know whats going on now. The implications could be massive especially when the press and competitors get onto this. Come on Apple pull your finger out!

Jul 31, 2012 3:32 PM in response to zerook

I just got mine back too. Good work by my Tech, but it was scary that they could not really give assurance that all email was thoroughly backed up up in the cloud.

Note: Another reason to use Time Machine. I found all my mail there when I checked, so I could have recovered my mailboxes from about the time of their crash.

But Apple has had consistent problems with web-based "solutions" Before iCloud was the unreliable Mobleme, and before that it was even worse. I think it should be a priority for the next OS to get this right, not to mention a small-enterprise based cloud system that doesn't require using Microsoft (ptui) Exchange Server.''

Since nobody at Apple is listening anyway...<rant off>
