Panic. All my email has disappeared from iCloud. I did not delete it, and now it's working again, but only from today. What happened to my old emails?

Sorry for the long header, but this is my first question.

Today, for no apparent reason, my iCloud inbox/sent items/junk/trash everything has disappeared from all my devices. I checked iCloud, and there's nothing up there either. I did not delete all my email, either intentionally or by accident.

Meanwhile, iCloud is now working again, but all the old mails are gone, I'm hoping not forever.

How do I recover all this missing material, which is essential both to my business and personally?

thanks

To All,

Just got back from an important volunteer Board meeting. Two members wondered what I thought of the emails sent to me earlier in the day.

First,,,, I ' m up and running with my "old " emails!!!!! Yes !!! 7:46 pm CST. Relief ! Nice !

Note that we did not just lose old emails,,,but, emails we had not read, also,,, and were ' lost ' prior to our reading.

Note: for those Not part of the " small " number of customers to lose their emails ,,,,,,, Beware ! , this could happen to you ! If you think you are safe ,,,, have fun in your Apple Fantasy World !

Just checked,,, no explanation, no apology ,,, nothing - nada - zip ! So, about 3+ hours spent in this fiasco ! Where do I send my hourly rate bill ???? Who is responsible ???? Does ICloud feature backup feature called "back-up" really back up???? Why didn't customer service know about this ( despite evidence ,per this thread , that many of you had called and emailed them) ??? Why no acknowledgement , even after 10-16 hours? Apple is an incredibly successful company! Kudos ! However, many firms have died due to this type of failure and incompetence,,,,as well as,,, their handling of the problem !!!! Arrogance comes to mind !

Again, those of you who think you are safe with these incompetents,,,,, may the IT gods help you .

Alert: just got a call from Nelson , in corporate ! Good call! Listened ( even though I probally chewed his ear off).

Assured me that the ICloud team was very concerned ! Told him that communications & process needs improvement. Said PST , the infor was posted on Apple site.. At 3:00 CST i did not see it . Asked him why not ICloud site post ??

Anyway, appreciated his follow up , despite the issues of needed improvement,,,,,,,,and,,,,,so happy my emails are back !!

Regards to Fellow Sufferers ,

Jack

Thank you for your inputs and support ( thread folks,,, not Apple ).

Regards,

Jack

I have had exactly the same problem. Noticed on friday.

My .mac account goes back to 2005. My sent mail disappeared apparently on July 27th - 23,000 messages gone.

My other mailboxes contents are disappearing one by one today. I click on an icloud folder and I see the messages there, a moment later they all vanish leaving only one or two.

I have a call schedule with Apple in the AM but very pessimistic.

Looks like 7 years of loyalty to this service will leave me with no mail history if the rest of my archives disappear...

So after a lot of back and forth with Apple support, we determined that my emails/notes could not be recovered from their end. That's 2 years worth of emails and notes...gone.

However, I was able to use Time Machine to restore emails/notes up until the last backup, which unfortunately was at the end of June. So I lost all of July and the first week of August. What's funny is that I only recently moved my Notes to iCloud so they would sync. If I had left them alone on my ipad and iphone, I would still have them.

I will say that most of the people I talked to at Apple support were very helpful and friendly. One guy was very hard to understand on the phone, so I just called back and got someone who I could understand. I wish they could have helped me more and that they had some explanation for why this happened, but I did learn a valuable lesson about backing up to an external hard drive on a more regular basis.

Yup, I've had the same from Apple - they are saying that my email can't be recovered. I've pointed them in the direction of this discussion thread though as presumably the same thing has happened to all of us, so how come some people's can be retrieved and some can't?

Has anyone been told by anyone at Apple exactly what happened? The people who's email has reappeared maybe? Your info might be able to assist the rest of us and our Apple techs...
