Panic. All my email has disappeared from iCloud. I did not delete it, and now it's working again, but only from today. What happened to my old emails?

Sorry for the long header, but this is my first question.

Today, for no apparent reason, my iCloud inbox/sent items/junk/trash everything has disappeared from all my devices. I checked iCloud, and there's nothing up there either. I did not delete all my email, either intentionally or by accident.

Meanwhile, iCloud is now working again, but all the old mails are gone, I'm hoping not forever.

How do I recover all this missing material, which is essential both to my business and personally?

thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

This sounds as if you need the attentions of MobileMe Support (I know you're on iCloud but there is no free support for that unless you happen to have AppleCare, and MobileMe Support have helped some people). Go to http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ww/ and select your country. In the next window click on a category to expand it, then on a subject to get a link to 'live chat'.

Horray, bully for Apple ! With all due respect Roger this is crap ! How can we trust Cloud computing if we lose an entire collection of data in a blink of an eye. I have a local backup up till July 25th but that is not the point of this... Many hours have passed and when I contacted support they had no idea this had been happening. What kind of organisation makes its loyal clients move over to a system that does not work and not even know that the wonderful iCloud is malfunctioning. I want to know why one of my accounts old mail has vanished and the other has not ! Something is not right here. A multi national the scale of Apple should pull out all the stops to get this sorted ASAP and let our 'small' group of affected users know whats going on now. The implications could be massive especially when the press and competitors get onto this. Come on Apple pull your finger out!

I just got mine back too. Good work by my Tech, but it was scary that they could not really give assurance that all email was thoroughly backed up up in the cloud.

Note: Another reason to use Time Machine. I found all my mail there when I checked, so I could have recovered my mailboxes from about the time of their crash.

But Apple has had consistent problems with web-based "solutions" Before iCloud was the unreliable Mobleme, and before that it was even worse. I think it should be a priority for the next OS to get this right, not to mention a small-enterprise based cloud system that doesn't require using Microsoft (ptui) Exchange Server.''

Since nobody at Apple is listening anyway...<rant off>

To All,

Just got back from an important volunteer Board meeting. Two members wondered what I thought of the emails sent to me earlier in the day.

First,,,, I ' m up and running with my "old " emails!!!!! Yes !!! 7:46 pm CST. Relief ! Nice !

Note that we did not just lose old emails,,,but, emails we had not read, also,,, and were ' lost ' prior to our reading.

Note: for those Not part of the " small " number of customers to lose their emails ,,,,,,, Beware ! , this could happen to you ! If you think you are safe ,,,, have fun in your Apple Fantasy World !

Just checked,,, no explanation, no apology ,,, nothing - nada - zip ! So, about 3+ hours spent in this fiasco ! Where do I send my hourly rate bill ???? Who is responsible ???? Does ICloud feature backup feature called "back-up" really back up???? Why didn't customer service know about this ( despite evidence ,per this thread , that many of you had called and emailed them) ??? Why no acknowledgement , even after 10-16 hours? Apple is an incredibly successful company! Kudos ! However, many firms have died due to this type of failure and incompetence,,,,as well as,,, their handling of the problem !!!! Arrogance comes to mind !

Again, those of you who think you are safe with these incompetents,,,,, may the IT gods help you .

Alert: just got a call from Nelson , in corporate ! Good call! Listened ( even though I probally chewed his ear off).

Assured me that the ICloud team was very concerned ! Told him that communications & process needs improvement. Said PST , the infor was posted on Apple site.. At 3:00 CST i did not see it . Asked him why not ICloud site post ??

Anyway, appreciated his follow up , despite the issues of needed improvement,,,,,,,,and,,,,,so happy my emails are back !!

Regards to Fellow Sufferers ,

Jack

Thank you for your inputs and support ( thread folks,,, not Apple ).

Regards,

Jack
