Graphic problems, mostly in Mail and Safari

I have a macbook pro 15" early 2011. (HD3000 + radeon 6750M) core i7 2.2, 16go RAM, SSD crucial M4 512. Since last software update I got similar problem.

It not always but at one moment it seems graphic cards crashes and I have to reboot, wait, retry....

This morning I try command-option P - R on start to reset PRAM, VRAM.

I have been able to reconnect

At the moment it work but I am just making my backup so most of the time screen is just in power save mode.

It seems that it a known problem with some series of graphis chipset.

Try command-option P - R and restart and lets see.

I anybody have an idea before I sent my MBP to change complete motherboard it would b welcome

I can confirm using the ATI graphics exclusively (I prefer to do it via Cody Krieger's gfxCardStatus) keeps the glitches away. Once I let the Intel HD graphics take over, they start appearing again (i.e. Yahoo homepage):

Apple want to hurry up and sort this out, bitterly dissapointed by Mountain Lion at the moment. Safari just feels suttery and slow now combined with graphics problems!

I am also having the same exact problems. I am going to the apple store in a couple days to ask about it.

I've given much thought to this. I have installed out-of-spec memory (Apple says 2 x 4 GB PC3-10600 is the max; I've installed 2 x 8 GB PC3-12800 instead) and the Intel HD 3000 uses system memory for the framebuffer. I didn't experience any problems with Snow Leopard or Lion, but I upgraded the memory for Mountain Lion.

How many of you that are experiencing this particular issue have also installed out-of-spec memory? If so, do you still have the memory that came with your MacBook, and can you put it in again and test? I don't anymore, so I can't.

I have the 16GB of RAM right now, but had the same issue even when I had the stock 4GB of RAM. However, it appears that the gliches are present more often now.

Nevertheless, I do not experience any other problem with the RAM installed. Last night, using Final Cut Pro X, I was using 12GB of RAM for more than 6 hours and everything worked fine.

I don't have the 4GB of RAM that were previoslly on my MacBook Pro 15" (Early 2011), so if someone has the oppurtunity to test with the stock RAM, I'd like to know the results.

a few weeks later from my post, the issue got much worse. Or at least I believe it is related. I turned off graphics switching in Energy Prefs which seemed to help the issue, but then things snowballed. I was getting odd grey lines (horizontal) at startup, no matter what startup option or disk I tried. The machine would also just stop with a purple/blueish mass all over the display with vertical lines.
AppleCare agreed with my diagnosis is was hardware. I have just got the mlb and display replaced, graphic switching back on. So far so good.

I have never upgraded my macbook pro's 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory but I'm experiencing the issue. So memory might not be related.

Switching to discrete graphics fixes the problem but that's not a real fix.

Thank you very much, agons and Woaha. The ball sits squarely in Apple's court, then. I really hope they get their act together with the Intel HD drivers for 10.8.3 but sadly, I don't hold my breath...

Make sure you fill a feedback form http://www.apple.com/feedback/ or a bug report https://bugreport.apple.com/ . Because it doesn't seem like Apple pays much attention to what goes on in their forum.

5 months later, I'm still struggling with this issue. I can essentially use my computer for a day or so before the graphics start going wonky, and I have to reboot (if the video doesn't freeze first). My iMac is under AppleCare, and they just replaced my ATI Radeon 4850, under the presumption that it had somehow failed. The problem is still happening.

I'm going to test for another day with only my original 2 sticks of memory and once it fails it's going back to the Apple Store for presumably a new motherboard (what else can they swap?)
